Question on the FN 5.7 sights

Post by Davidlee » 19 Mar 2011, 05:06

I have fixed combat sites on my pistol, seems when I go to target shoot that if I line the sight up like I am use to everything is low. Basically all three dots even. When I line up with my sight picture and the frony sight is just above the rear dots my shot placement is center on. Is this due to the front sight being taller or am I doing something wrong.

At distance of 50-100 yds I use the top blade of the front sight. I also have a small notch in the front sight I use to aid in the longer shots on both the 5.7s. It might not be for everyone however I find it very useful since I find myself in pissing matches all the time with people doubting the accuracy and effectiveness of the platform at range. I love to put hush to the NA sayers ;) .

Wow I was only shooting at 21' - 25' will have to do a lot more up close shooting before I roll out to 50 yds. Bones what were the results of the 50 and 100 yard shots effectiveness. And thanks for the reply.

Wow man. These things are super flat shooting. The most accurate hand gun I have ever shot so far. We usually shot at clays or cans at 50 and 100 yards since its to hard to see the holes in paper at that distance unless you are using a spotting scope. Clays are 4" diameter and well you know the size of a coke can. I was shooting just last week and a girl with an AR15 was shooting one lane next to me on the 100yd lane and we were bouncing a coke can from one side of the berm to the other. I would say the distance was about 107-109 since we were shooting on the berm just past the 100yd mark. She was using an AR with Irons and me with the 5.7 pistol with the adjustable sights with green Hi viz paint on the front and a small notch. The back sights are still white but repainted since what ever FNH uses sucks for the sight dot paint. I was using the wall in front of the shooting bench to steady my shot placement. The ss192 shots about 8" higher than the 40 grain vmax out of the pistol. There is only about a 3" difference when shooting the same to out of the ps90. Thats pretty much all I use for plinking is ss192 or vmax since I have a crap ton of both. All I can really suggest is to shoot more and shoot as often as you can. Its really a cool little platform although I dont carry it for self defense its a fun little toy :D

Bones, thanks for the post, thats some good shooting and ya just gotta love a woman thats out burning rounds with an AR and iron sights. I will shoot as often as possible as this pistol is not abusive also my carry weapon because of arthrits in my hands shoulder and elbow. Good comment jgreenburg01
