AR57 Pistol Build
AR57 Pistol Build
Thought I would start off by showing off my AR57 pistol build. RRA lower with mostly Magpul accessories. The brass catcher is a Lancer L5 20-rounder. I'd love to replace the standard FH with one of those Tromix Sharks. I haven't shot her lately as she tend to choke on SS197SR plastic tips a lot. I'm down to 2 boxes of ss195LF.
Here she is, right next to my PS90.

Re: AR57 Pistol Build
I've seen that on the internet before. It's what started me on the 5.7 round.
Saw how nice yours looked, had an unused spikes lower, an sbr upper was for sale on another forum, and suddenly:
I cut down a lancer mag for a brass catcher but it's not in the picture.
I liked that so much I bought a fiveseven, then a ps90.
Then after shooting the ps90, I just had to have an fs2000. After all my ar's are 1:8 and 1:9 twist, so I needed a 1:7 twist like the fs2000. No picture of the fs2000, haven't even got to shoot it yet.

What it amounts to is your picture cost me a hell of a lot of money.
Re: AR57 Pistol Build
Hahaha...glad I influenced someone with the build. Nice build you got too! :thumb:ryr8828 wrote:What it amounts to is your picture cost me a hell of a lot of money.
The FS2000 is a must have as well. You are definitely going on the right path. My FS2000 has been getting a lot more attention than my ARs lately. New shooters especially love it.
I'm not convinced about spending $ on a FiveseveN pistol though. I won't be able to practice it as much considering how expensive 5.7 ammo is. I'm sticking with my Glocks for the time being, but the idea of the PS90 HD rifle and a FiveseveN to back it up sharing ammo is rather enticing.

That is one beautiful AR57 pistol, I have never ever considered getting one until seeing yours. I'm going to build me one, exactly like the one you have. Have you narrowed down why it chokes on SS197?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: AR57 Pistol Build
Just ordered my upper. Apparently they are now offering 12 inch uppers instead of 11 inch ones, something to do with adding suppressors. I was able to get my hands on 11 inch that was available.

Nice touch with the para cord. You should do some kind of cool tie design with the para around the buffer tube like the Para cord bracelets. I struggle with my shoe strings. I never got that merit badge back then  That would look pretty sweet on there.

Re: AR57 Pistol Build
That's exactly correct. I called them to ask some questions when I was trying to decide between cutting down the existing barrel or ordering the 11" they told me that unless I was getting the Gemtech SFN-57, which is only 1.25" in diameter, I needed to get the 12" barrel.Serdac wrote:Just ordered my upper. Apparently the threading on the 11" barrel does not go far enough beyond the end of the rails, and because most suppressors are wider than the 1.25" inside diameter provides, they switched to 12" barrels. This allows any can, flash hider or compensator to screw on regardless of diameter.

Shopping for a lower now and am a bit confused. I'm looking for a "complete AR Pistol Lower with 7" Buffer" correct?jgreenberg01 wrote:That's exactly correct. The para cord is a nice touch.
So did you end up with the 12"?

Re: AR57 Pistol Build
Yes I got the 12" barrel. It all goes to my gunsmith on Monday for the laser etching and putting the new barrel in. I'm not all that comfortable having the barrel, upper & lower here - don't want anyone claiming "constructive possession". The ATF cashed my check in January and it's been in "pending" status since 2-15-11. I am hoping that it will be approved by the time the laser etching is completed.
I don't expect the Form 4 to be approved until some time mid to late April. I'll post pics when it's all done.

Re: AR57 Pistol Build
Nice, looks like you'll be done before me. I should have everything set up in about 2 weeks and will post up photos as well. What type of lower do you have?
Re: AR57 Pistol Build
I have a major hard-on for a AR-57 upper.

Re: AR57 Pistol Build
Sweet. Keep an eye on the rear sight. It may get snapped off since they are plastic. I know they are really rugged but keep an eye on it. Good job. She is clean looking and well balanced.
Re: AR57 Pistol Build
The only problem I have with these uppers, is the problem being able to mount an optic and a flip up iron sight together.
With the mag needing some room for clearance, and the short rail, even with that smaller than normal Eotech it is hard to get them both on there without the rear sight hanging off.
But anyway, it looks good bro. Enjoy!

Re: AR57 Pistol Build
It's taking a bit longer than planned but I'm getting there. My mags are on their way as of yesterday, FFL ordered my lower about a week ago, and I received my UPS tracking number for my AR57 upper today....and just picked up my Magpul grips and Troy micro sights.

Also pay attention when putting on the magazine. My buddy found out (the hard way) that the magazines fit on upsidedown which is (need i say it) frustrating. :laugh:swenk wrote:The only problem I have with these uppers, is the problem being able to mount an optic and a flip up iron sight together.

Re: AR57 Pistol Build
Got my upper in yesterday, nice quality, 11" barrel, weighs in at 4.1lbs, I didn't think it would be that much but I'm happy with it.

Done, haven't shot it yet though, it weighs in at almost 7.5lbs fully loaded.

double tapping what bones said. Had one snap in the up position during a course of fire... had to shoot the last two targets good old kentucky style.
Re: AR57 Pistol Build
Beautiful pistol.
I have to ask though, since it is a pistol did you need to do SBR Paperwork on it?
How did that work?
Also, what did it cost you in total to put that beauty together?

As long as you do not put a stock on it, you do not need SBR paperwork.Babylon wrote:Beautiful pistol.

Re: AR57 Pistol Build
Thats the magic of ar "pistols", I just wish their was 12 gauge "pistols" . I hate SBR and Class 3's in general, just puts you on the government hit list if anything bad ever happens or UN/ NATO takes over the worlds gun right, which could never happen in America! :p
Re: AR57 Pistol Build
mythaeus, do you run into any problems seating the magazine on yours with the Magpul rail-covers? Even leaving out the one for the end of the magazine they "push up" on the underside of the long body of the mag for me requiring more force to get the magazine to fully seat.
