He said under 300 dollars

saigas are cheap and reliable. SO is the wolf ammo that it feeds on. (rifle calibers; 223, 7.62x39)

I would also recommend just saving a little more, then buying a Romanian AK. That is the ultimate "cheap and reliable" rifle.

Another good way to pick up cheap firearms is to check the trade magazines. With as rough times people are having these days, some have had to thin out their collections. It's a great way to enhance yours.

sometimes u can pick up cheap surplus foreign service rifles (i know theres lots of good bolt guns out there)... Im not sure where, but a quick google search would probably yield results.

I still say you can't go wrong with the old Marlin 30.30 lever action. Good little kick around rifle that's good for everything from varmints to deer.
Small and light, fits a saddle scabbard and light enough to pack in and out of far away deer camps with ease.
