Lets see your knives
Just curious as to what everyone's favorite knives are. I'll start off by showing my everyday folder and a large fixed blade a co-worker got me for Christmas last year.
Cold Steel Recon Tanto and a CRKT M16-14DSFG with Veff serrations.

Benchmade mini griptillian is by far my favorite pocket knife.
I haven't found a favorite fixed blade yet.

Re: Lets see your knives
Nice nice.
I like where this is going.
I wish I had more blades, but those two I've got pictured are my favorite two. Don't really get to use the fixed blade really, but the only other knife I truly have deep feelings for isn't at my current residence.
I have an old Ka-Bar with original Ka-Bar leather that's my deer knife my grandfather gave me.
I also have a VERY old Stag Case XX an elderly gentleman out in rural WV gave to me one night as I was doing some home theatre work at his home. It will hold a place in my heart as we were truly alike. He used to be the #1 Case dealer in the area and when he got out of the business, took everything with him. He has knives numbered #2. Whereas #1 sits as the Case Museum. He give me and my co-worker matching Stag Case Red Letter XX's new in their tissue paper from his stash. God Bless that man.

Whoa Chuck, I know you're straight and a good guy, but after a couple wines seeing a postline like show me your's and I'll show you mine freaks me out. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: On a serious note, it is probably of good benefit to discuss it here. I always had something to gut a deer with, and on the job I cut down 5 or 6 guys who hung themselves, but honestly, I don't know squat about knives and can learn much from y'all. Thanks for the post. ff

I have plain edges on my mini griptillians, I hate serrations on my edc knife. I like them on a fixed blade though.

I'm not too fond of serrated myself. They have their uses, but I just like a plain edge better.

Personally, I'm a straight blade kinda guy too.
Serrations, serve no purpose that I've found and I know my knives... Certainly not the serrations on a 1/2 and 1/2 blade.

I mostly use the Spyderco for butting power cable, 1/0 or bigger. It makes quick work of the thick sheath.

I LOVE the kershaws. I'm not into collecting knives but I used to have the same one, the blackout model. It was excellent; the blade was hc steel and was a bit more malleable, but it held it's edge superbly... then I lost it.

Re: Lets see your knives
Love the Infidel. Carried it in my pocket, clip out in Iraq. It got a ton of laughs, and it is a sweet knife. Best OTF on the market by far. The best part is that I didn't have to pay for it. USASOC at Bragg before we deployed had a gear show where the soldiers got a bunch of free gear from the reps there. Got a pair of Oakley Desert boots, some Oakley glasses, Wiley X glasses, got that CBK, that Besh, and that Gerber LMF, a Suunto GPS watch, a bunch of M-4 attachments, some gucci gear for the IBA, and won the lunch drawing for the Infidel. Pretty sweet.

Talking about favorite knives....
Yesterday, Sunday, I spent 25 minutes in a very cold lake finding the Chris Reeves Sable4 that my beloved 12 year old son accidentally let slip out of his coat pocket, sheath and all, while bending over. A2 tool steel, hollow handle for compass & matches, rugged and shaped for versatility, not to military looking........ Glad to have it back!!!

Re: Lets see your knives
Those are all some great looking knives.
I just might be grown up enough for a nice knife...maybe. I've managed to hang on to a pair of sunglasses for over 2 years and just recently replaced a Zippo wick for the first time ever. The lighters were always lost long before they needed a wick.
I'll be watching the thread for some ideas. I've got plenty of edged tools, but nothing that I would pout over if it was lost.

Re: Lets see your knives
the Leatherman Wave is a tool i never go without. I also favor a husky folding utility knife for random stuff. a razor will always be super sharp, then when it dulls out you swap it for a new one! Not flashy cool blades but they do their job well. My dad has several OTF knives.
Re: Lets see your knives
Noticed some of you like Kershaw. Check out zero tolerance knives. Made by kershaw but made alot tougher and sorta pricey.

Re: Lets see your knives
My Gerbers. The middle folder has seen a lot of EDC use.
My CRKTs. Top one has never been used. Bottom one sees use as a money clip/letter opener.
My SOGs. Yes, I like the Tanto Trident so well that I own 2 of them. One stays in my car and the other is my current EDC.
Blackwater (made by Benchmade) fixed blade and a Bladetech folder. I carry the Bladetech at times when I need something more discreet than the SOG.
And what knife collection would be complete without a few Swiss Army knives. I have one more, but it is in my desk draw at work.

I bought an SOG Bipolar knife from Woot for $45 a few months back. They have had other styles for sale as well, this is the one I decided on. You have to catch it when they have them for sale (usually during a WootOff) as they do not have a standing inventory or catalog to sell from.ChuckD wrote:I'll give you $30 for the SOG Trident Tanto, but only if it has the plain blade and is 100% authentic and real SOG. Lazi, that is an awesome Busse collection!
My knife interest has suffered a lot since I've gotten more into guns. Down to 2 Busses (a war boar and a hack) and 2 scrapyards.

I don't know if SOG has a plant of warehouse or what in Seattle, but their Lynnwood store had a big ol' sale (open warehouse, all items 50-75% off). So I walked away with:
A SEAL Pup
A Power Assist mutli-tool
Two Aura SEALs
Final price combined was a tick over $150.

Re: Lets see your knives
This is the knife I carry everyday. I use it on the range to hammer in tacks into IPSC posts and pry out staples and cut cardboard. The tip is broken off and the blade's finished is thoroughly scratched. I've always wondered if benchmade would bother replacing the blade. Perhaps not since I use it as a pry-tool.jmz5 wrote:I have been eying the Chive, but carry one of my Benchmade mini griptillians every day.

Re: Lets see your knives
I dont know much about knives, but I was once told by a custom knife maker and former black-ops vietnam vet, that "a knife with a one-sided blade is for chopping vegetables".
Meaning that only double-edged weapons were for combat.
I always wonder if thats true or not.

Samurai made due with one edge and to the best of my knowledge many people died on those single edge weapons.SeaHawkDriver-B wrote:I dont know much about knives, but I was once told by a custom knife maker and former black-ops vietnam vet, that "a knife with a one-sided blade is for chopping vegetables".

I think your source is, well, not really representing the truth. My thoughts. If he really was a 'black ops' vet, which most that claim so are lying, then he would have been trained with a single edged K-Bar or Mk2 (depending if he were Army, Navy, USMC). And if he were MACV or dipped, he would have carried the SOG Bowie, also single edged.

Re: Lets see your knives
Just picked up a Helle Fjelkniven, probably going to be my general use outdoor knife. It sure is pretty, not sure I want to mess it up.
http://helle.com/Default.aspx?tabid=4954&language=en-US" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also picked up a Knives of Alaska Whitetail Hunter in the bargain cave of cabelas. Probably be my exclusive deer/Elk knife
http://www.knivesofalaska.com/item.asp?id=116" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thought I would post links as my camera phone sucks, and my dang cousin still has my digital camera. Might try the new iPad camera though.

Does that have a full tang? Is the finger guard big enough to use? Interesting looking kinfe for sure.Krull wrote:Nepali made "farmcata" designed by a Blade Forums member,I have a bunch of Nepali made Khukris,Tarwar sword, sickle et cetera.
Re: Lets see your knives
Finger groove is big enough for steadying it for small tasks, but the handle is long enough for you to hold the handle farther back when you chop.
As to the full tang...
They did a very nice job on this one, most time the Kamis tend to over do it,I have a copy of a local farm knife they made it's a 1/2 inch thick, yes a half inch thick! :skep:

Re: Lets see your knives
After I tried, unsuccessfully, to buy one of these from a forum member, I ran into a dealer at a gun show. I bought the smaller version, and in my usual style... here's a quick video. This thing fires FAST!

Hunting knife my dad made for me a long time ago. 4.5" blade, elk horn handle, full tang handle, razor sharp.
The sheath was made by a friend of his who made his shoulder holster. He does excellent work but takes forever

From Ontario Knife Company the Blackbird SK-5. It's a pretty sturdy knife with good weight.
I think it will make a good camp knife. Hedgehog Leatherworks has a nice sheath for it but is twice the cost of the knife.

Re: Lets see your knives
Just got into Helle Knives. Out of Norway. Some of the finest blades I have ever seen. Very simple construction, but rock solid. Look em up. I will try and get pics of my two shortly.
SteepandCheap.com had one of their blades 75% off recently which is awesome. I have used one of mine for game cleaning, and it is still razor sharp.
