Speed Loader Available?

I just picked up my 5-7 today, and went to the range. It is my first gun, and I really liked it. I met up with a few friends of mine, and we fired a .22, .40, .45, and the 5-7. I noticed it isn't that easy to load the cartridges, and ended up cutting some of my fingers. My friend with a .40 had a speed loader for his handgun.

Is there a speed loader for the 5-7 available? If not, what is the best way of loading the ammunition so that I don't kill my hands?

I fired the SS195LF with no problems (went through about 80 rounds). I have some SS197 coming (back ordered), and placed an order with Elite for some of their ProtecTOR ammo.

Next is to get a CCW.

Loading mags gets a little easier after the first few times. Though it would be nice if there was a 57LULA

If your actually cutting your fingers you might be doing something a little weird, more or less all you should be doing is pushing em down into the magazine with maybe a little rearward pressure after that to get em to the rear of the mag.

Thank you. I had the same problem with the Glock 19C (I think that was it, 9mm), and the salesman said there is a speed loader so I wouldn't have that problem. I didn't like that gun, so I didn't worry about it.

I think I found a better way of doing it, but it I don't load the ammunition that quickly. I started alternating which side to put the cartridges in, and that seems to help. I would like to load it quicker though.

I find the FsN magazine is 10x easier to reload then a traditional caliber handgun (.40, 9mm, etc). Even my wife can load all 20 rounds into the FsN, compared to about 8 in the XD, and 10 in her Be.

To load the cartridge into the mag (assuming your are right handed and holding the mag in your left hand), using your right hand place the round centered between the feed lips, press it down with the thumb of your left hand while keeping slight rearward pressure on the shoulder of the brass with either the thumb or fore finger of your right hand.

Thank you. I am still having a bit of trouble doing it, but I think with more practice I will be able to get it. Too bad I can only get to the range a few times each month.

Don't have to be at the range to load mags. However, "unloading" them at the range is a lot more fun that unloading them by hand!

I have thought about trying to modify a LULA to work with FsN mags, but I haven't gotten around to getting another LULA. I don't want to trash my only one.

Yikes! You would have to mutilate an UpLULA to get it to work with a FsN mag...

Quite true, after I got home from the range yesterday and my fingers healed, I loaded up two of the magazines. One with SS195, and one with SS197. I haven't fired the SS197 yet, but perhaps the next time I go to the range I will use that magazine. I have two boxes of SS192, but they are staying in the box for now.

I gather there is not a problem keeping the magazines loaded, right?

Popular vote on here is that the repetitive compression and expansion of the springs is what wears them out. But I also dont fully compress mine either - I usually keep 18 in each mag

Once I unload my magazines, I will make sure to keep just 15 rounds in them. Right now I keep an unloaded magazine in the gun, and keep two magazines loaded in the case. No CCW yet, but when I do, I will have a loaded magazine in the gun.

Generally, how long should the springs last?

About to pull the trigger and pickup a 57 as my primary weapon of choice to hone my shooting skills and I would think it would be a PITA to load several hundred rounds by hand every time I'm out at the range. Have any speed loaders come on the market (or are in development) since this thread was started over a year ago)?

Unless your thumbs have evolved... no.

Loading the mags is quite simple and easy to do, it isn't hard on your thumbs at all.

Just be sure you load them straight down - not down in from the front of the mag & push back like usual pistol mags

Seriously, even after a few hundred rounds in a day it's still easier to load than any mag I can think of.

Yea exactly, FSN mags are very easy to load if you treat it like an AR mag. You don't need to depress the round and push the round backwards into the mag, just one thumb pushing from the top will click it into place.
