Best (recommended) self defense loads

Post by stg2ahn » 22 Sep 2008, 20:21

What are the best, or recommended, self defense loads for the 5.7 pistol?
I like the superraptor, but an afraif the zero at 25 yards would be significantly different from the standard bluetip ammo due to the velocity differences.

What is a great SD ammo that has a similiar zero to the factory ammo, without adjusting the sights?
I would think it would be a bullet that is 40grain like the factory ammo.

Panzer, MO, fuzzy, anyone???

That's the problem with the SS195 & SS197. Our ammo runs hotter. I am sure Ryan or Jay can explain it better.

I'm not associated with EA, but my personal favorite is the S4 SuperRapTOR, great penetration, tumbling, wound channel...

I am not associated with EA either but, I'm a fan of the VarminTOR. It's got velocities between the ProtecTOR and the S4 Super RapTOR and it essentially explodes on penetration of soft materials like flesh. You also do not have to worry about over-penetration of walls or the such. Great for apartments or hotels.

will the S4 over penetrate an "average" sized BG at close range?

edit: a BG in reg clothes, not armor.

Im in a new place now, and the area isn't nearly as nice as my old place. I have colored tape on the bottom of my mags so I know what to use for different situations. If the gangsta thugs come through it's S4 Raptors all the way. If it's a break in I have 1 ss195, protecTORs, VarmiTOR, so the room mates wont get caught by strays. In the other mag I have a mix of almost everything from EA. I would suggest buying multiple loads from EA, put colored tape on your mags and be prepared for every situation.

Do you have Gangsta neighbors; or Gangsta's in the neighborhood? If so, you really need the Super RapTOR because of its penetration characteristics through ballistic fibre and barriers. If you're more concerned about a home invasion where armor isn't a concern, but you want as much penetration and expansion as possible, use the ProtecTOR.

If you have loved one's in other rooms of the house, or you live in an apartment; and therefore over-penetration would be a concern, the VarminTOR is your best bet.
I notice you said ballistic fiber what level armor will the Super RapTOR go threw level 3 ? because the BG could be waring it , thanks

There are areas of the forum where that is discussed, but it is reserved for the professionals who need to know the capabilities of that ammunition.

Its a special hunting load that they worked up for Fudd. It uses a (55gr?) Barnes TSX bullet.

Im assuming is pretty much just like a hot Penetrator with a TSX bullet.
