Finding .223 Fiocchi 77gr & Black Hills 77gr & S&Bss109
Does any forumite know a good place to get Fiocchi Exacta 77gr SMK ammo or Black Hills 77gr SMK ammo AND S&B ss109?
So far, it's about 20 bucks a box for the Fiocchi plus shipping... if there's anywhere in Oklahoma or Texas that I can drive to to save on shipping and get it under 20 bucks, PLEASE let me know!
Thanks guys, any help is much appreciated!
Much love,
poor college student.
DISCLAIMER: It is my belief nothing can beat handloads. It's not even the fact that it is not convenient/time/cost/effective for me to reload at present. Even if I could, I would still be testing different factory ammo for accuracy and true value. You might call it a search for knowledge; sometimes going outside of your box teaches you new things. I want to find good alternatives to handloads for future reference. I'm also doing these tests for fun; I don't plan to "stock up" like many other SHTF tactical barf.com guys on either the Fiocchi, Black Hills, or S&B. Why? Well, why should I? I'm going to stock up on reloads that are loaded to my rifle once I'm out of school. Not some "milspec" factory round that others tell me is "good". There's nothing like empirical knowledge you gain firsthand!

Blue, try nearest Cabelas, they have all the money to keep their stock up to date. Allso, you can apply for their visa card and get 10% off instantly. I use their card for everyday purchases and whait till i have some points acumulated, than go to the cabelas store and use them. Lust time i've picked up a $285 worth of gun powder and stuff for $160 after taxes. Can't get that kind of deal at graf's using dealer account.

Re: .223 Fiocchi 77gr or Black Hills 77gr, I need help :)
oooh thanks Vitaliy. Irish, I've tried a ton of factory loads, even $1-a-round-hornady.
I have been testing every brand of ammo from every manufacturer from Hornady to Winchester to Federal. I haven't tried Black Hills, but I'm pretty sure it will perform well. I've shot everything else out of my 1/8 twist, though.
The best ammo/brands grouped 1moa and below at 100 yds, but that was irrelevant at 200+, where the true test showed that most couldn't achieve the same success. The M855/SS109 performs exceptionally well in my 1/8 at 100 yds; I've tried M855/ss109 from Win, Fed, and S&B.
55gr FMJ @100:
S&B SS109 @100:
S&B SS109 @200 (actually, I just realized this group isn't bad. 12-15 mph crosswinds):
The 77gr Fiocchi was purchased from a Cabela's south of Austin, I called them yesterday and they did not have the 77gr Fiocchi nor the Black Hills 77gr.
Fiocchi 77SMK @200 (8" target)
This target would have been better; I called all my shots to POI, so it was all user error. This is where $300 drops onto my lap and I can go buy a match trigger, hahaa
I want the Fiocchi because I know it works, the Black Hills to test and also because I already know it will work. I'm still searching for any good stores, so if any of you know a place/Cabela's in OK or TX or a website/guy, please let me know! Thanks

Blue, save some of the brass, 100 rounds or so, send them to me, i'll load them with our 55 and 62 gr. solid bullits, than you shoot them and see if we could better the factory stuff. Make shure that the brass is the same brand and fired from your rifle. All you pay for is shipping I have some prototype projectiles left over, that i can spair for scince. It's still to cold here for benchrest, other vice i'd be doing it my self.

Roll your own.
Find a buddy who has a press & take up reloading.
Sorry, I'm drunk & tried to search the internet with no avail.

dsgarms.com has the fiocchi for 19.32 a box with a discount for mil/le and quantity discounts. Of course shipping is extra. I've bought a lot from these guys and they are good to work with.

Hey,
PPU75H Prvi 223 Rem 75gr JHP ammunition. $93.00 / 200 rd $460 / 1000 rds
http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm? ... 18|830|845" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This stuff is no Blackhills or Federal Gold Medal 69gn.... but it blows the doors off any SS109 or M855, i have ever used (well I haven't yet.. see below), and at these prices... well you get the point. :ponder:
I picked (2) cases for use this spring and summer (well and next year, lol) in DCM and long range matches in Oregon when I get back from the sandbox :patriot: . I have a friend at home who fired it at 200-800 meters in February and bought 3 more cases when he saw the results.

Re: .223 Fiocchi 77gr or Black Hills 77gr, I need help :)
Thanks for the link, Oregunbob. The funny coincidence is, I already have these rounds. I have shot the 69gr match and 75gr match and my rifle still outshoots it with single-hole groupings of the S&B ss109.
I had actually offered a friend to trade the 109 for my PPU 75gr match.
Did you SEE your friend's results or did he just tell you about it? Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to question your veracity, but sometimes what our friends tell us differs a bit from what we see for ourselves.
Maybe you could post your results or your friend's? Pictures would be helpful thanks.
I'm very interested in how your rifle does with this round.

Re: .223 Fiocchi 77gr or Black Hills 77gr, I need help :)
No offence taken
I have DPMS CMP rifle with a stainless 1/8 twist.
My friend has a similiar "designed for CMP" product but from BM. I'll see if I can get some pics of his groupings. He told me 1/2 to slightly over MOA depending on the weather... and his shooting
If you dont mind be asking, what is your lot number for your SB. I have tried m855 in both Federal and IMI for matches. I've been dissapointed with the result... other than better long distance groups, 300m and in has been nothing significantly better than other 55gr FMJBT's.
I have not tried Winchester or SB SS109/M855 in competition as the other two have left me umimpressed. Did have 3 cases of Federal 69grn from the early 2002 era I used up.... sub 3/4 MOA... liked it a lot... but the cost is now not worth it.
Hoping this Prvi 223 Rem 75gr JHP ammunition can shoot as well as me and my rifle... better than that is uneeded...lol

Bob, it looks like we'll be able to learn and profit from knowledge through further discussion.
I'm sending you a PM.
Edit: btw, Bob, I have done... let's just say alot of ammo testing. ss109/M855 was not all created equal. Even LC M855 tests out of my bbl pales to S&B... but you can already see the results up there.

Hey Jmz, since I'm going to be testing Vitaliy's ammo alongside other manufacturers and bullet weights, you wanna back up your claim? :lmao:jmz5 wrote:My handloads blow black hills out of the friggin water.

I'll pay for shipping! C'Mon, it'll be fun

The awesome thing about this forum, is that people put their money where their mouth is. They stand behind their word.
Or, perhaps, that is also the scary part.
Looks like I'm going to be doing some really fun ammo testing.
Thanks guys.

Best part of the thread is Vit's use of "Lust time" re the shooting sports. That about describes us all. 3rd comment on thread- Dr. Freud sees into our souls.

Jon, I am interested to see how mine stack up with V's.
Granted, mine are 55gr made for my 1in9s. They should do well out of yours.
