Varminators out of Fiveseven VS. Coyote

Post by mickey223 » 01 Oct 2008, 07:58

I had loaded up some varminators in case of yotes in my fiveseven while deer hunting. Last night, I heard the labs making a fuss.

I was about to step out and take a look, when I remembered my fiveseven was still hanging in the closest in a chest rig I use during hunting. I grabbed it real quick and my surefire executive defender and headed outside.

The labs had calmed down, but my pug was barking mad about 20 yards away near out goat shed. I walked toward here and caught a flash of about 10 pairs of eyes in the mid field (about 150 yards back). Apparantly a pack of deer were chowing down on some acorns from a couple of oak trees. I figured that was what got the dogs upset, so I gave the pug a two whistle come here call that she has been trained to. She, turned and came moved about 5 feet, then turned back and went to showing off again (a lot barking and hind leg kicking).

I started towards here, and the hair stood up on the back of my neck and got an uneasy feeling. As I got closer, I kept the light pointing off to the right where she was looking. As I got about 5 feet away, I caught a different set of eyes about 50 yards off looking at me.

I, pulled the five seven and with surefire in my left hand and my right laying over the wrist to steady, I took a quick shot and the "eyes". Damn thing just dropped. I thought at first it had turned an ran back through the hay.

I kept the light and pistol up and in front as I went to investigate. I found the yote laying there, missing its left eye and dead.

I wanted to get some pics this morning, but by the time I got back out there its buddies had already dragged him off.

Guess, its time to get the caller out and set up for some yote hunting. I've been wanting to get a good vivisection on a heart/lung shot with the varminators. This might be my chance.

Man, a story like that makes me want to move out of the city and start doing some real living. If I were in your situation, I 'd be hunting coyotes until either my bullets ran out or my wife did!

I wonder if their buddy was cannabalized, or just taken elsewhere.

Nice shooting BTW :thumb:

Yo mickey223 what state you live in?
Kudos on that shot, considering you running around, shooting with a flashlight, aiming at night and with the adrenaline pumping, you made a solid shot.

I can easily hit a 50 yard plate, but this is after a significant amount of practice in a controlled environment at a 8x10 in steel target in broad daylight. :wall:

I guess I should have qualified the story by saying it was the luckiest shot I have ever made, and is in no way a testament to my skill as a shooter. Now, I'm pretty fair with a rifle (guess it's the hillbilly in me from gowing up in the mountains of eastern kentuck). A pistol, well, except for squirrel hunting with a 6 inch bull ruger mark ii when I was younger, I'm not much of a pistol shooter.

I found out what happened to the coyote, my father in law came by early in the am to set a tree stand along on of the fields and he picked up the yote and took it to the dump on the way out. He was afraid it would bring some others down to close to the house with the boys.

For legal/clarification reason's I was hunting or spotlighting. The yote was in close poximity to my house and was a percieved threat to livestock and family pets.

It just shows that how good the 5.7 can be in the right hand.

Hey that little dog is one of the meanest ankle bitters you will find. I had set some scraps out for the goat, and she somehow got in the fence and was eating them, when the billy came up. She started growling and the billy butted her pretty good.

Didn't even make her flinch, she walked back over and started eating again. The billy came up and shoved her. Now here is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. She grabbed that goat by the ear and twisted her head and body in such away as to flip that goat off its feet and on its back....Needless to say, the goat got up and left her alone.

Hell yeah score 2 for that pug of yours. Sounds like she is working up the food chain, you better watch out.

Woot, the back field has been cut today, so I can set up my decoy and call in some yote this week.

I plan on using the ps90 with a 3-9 variable scope and EA VarminaTORS.

Sorry guys, work has kept me busier than usual and every attempt to get back out there has been cut short by work or the boys.
