500 s&w shotshells

Post by angus younger » 22 Mar 2009, 12:37

A while back, a buddy in the shop had some clear plastic shipping tubes for heli-coil. I measured them and they were perfect to make a shotshell for the 500. Can't seem to find any of the plastic tubes the proper size without placing a big custom order. Anybody got any ideas? Thanx.

You should just use 500 S&W brass and cap it with a gas check. That's how Mike Venturino makes them for 44 and 45.

I should note that I have never made them for a 500 S&W so experiment at your own risk of course. If I recall, MV used either a cardboard wad or gas check over the powder and capped the round with an inverted gas check. I'd do a Google search on snake loads and see what turns up.

thanx again. the few loads i made in the plastic tubes had about 3/4 oz. of #7 1/2 or #8 shot. i could still get about 1/2 to 5/8 oz. of shot in the loads u described. I have to give it a try.
