.224x77gr

Post by JoJo » 13 Sep 2012, 09:42

I hoped to load 77gr Bergen bullets into 5.56 brass using Varget powder. It seems that combination requires compression. I have no experience with compressed loads and would rather not push my luck. Can anyone suggest an alternative powder that would work well without compression? Please forgive my lack of experience/knowledge.

Manual says 21-23.7Gr for Varget. Some compression is ok, I'd just go with the Varget's loads to start with & go from there. The manual does say the max load will be compressed.
Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.

What is the downside of a compressed load? Pressure?

Use Varget.
Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity.
The shooter will always matter more than the gear ever will.
Stop relying on others to do the work for you.
Shoot more, worry less.
