My god that is a clean setup.

Most reload benches are cold, dark and usually in a basement or garage.

Who cares about a guest room, you got a reloading room.

Thanks for the compliments - Being organized is one of my character flaws (as my all too patient wife constantly reminds me).

The reloading bench was actually a workbench I built for the woodworking shop I had in the garage of my other house before I moved here a few months ago. Because the house I'm in now has a smaller garage, I sold off a lot of my woodworking stuff and figured the bench would make a nice reloading table. My old reloading setup was in the basement of my previous house, but since this house has no basement, I did convince the wife of the importance of having a designated gun room. :D

The prosthetic is a Flex-Foot modular III. I liked it a lot, but now have a conventional pylon with a Luxon Journey foot. Take it from me, the hardware is almost meaningless. You gotta have a proper fit or else you get sores which suck the life right out of you. There are good days and bad days.

I was in a motorcycle accident on 7 June 1991. A guy pulled out of a shopping center parking lot and ran me down as I was coasting up to a red light.

Of course he was underinsured. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital and 4 months learning to walk.

Contrary to what some people think of my gun handling skills, or lack thereof, I did NOT shoot myself in the foot.

As far as the sense of humour, you gotta get busy living, or get busy dying.

Word has it you were in Columbia killing a bottle of cheap rum, wondered off into the jungle and passed out. Upon waking, you found a Capybara nawing the leg off, hence the moniker, Rodentman.

It's about time to do some proper outdoor shooting. You in "Southron" MN?
We could probably get Irish and FSNTAC to help make a pile o' brass :D

The RCBS powder measure that came with the RockChucker kit seems to dribble a tiny bit, hardly noticable until after 100+ rounds....assuming it's normal, I thought when I get set back up I'd just put a Clean Strides insert under the area. (tacky paper for clean room entrances)

http://www.andersenco.com/ProductPages/ ... tride.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have 80 year old hardwood floors and sweeping up doesn't do the job. I've been laying down a piece of Tyvek casket protector to catch the occasional stray bit.

Any thoughts?

I am new to the forum and new to reloading. I have purchased a RockChucker and a full RCBS set up. Looking for advice on mounting locations and bench set up for the most practical flow during reloading. I built an 8'x20" bench with overhead shelf. Looking for any pointers or advice to save the could a should a woulda outcome. Planning on loading .40, .38sp, 30-30, .270, .243, 30-06 as well as the 5.7. Any pics of bench set up would be greatly appreciated.

For what it's worth, here's my set up which works well in a small space.

Image

Back when I lived in an apartment and had very limited space, I bought a sturdy TV stand and set this up. The tumbler is bolted down to keep it from walking of the bench, and the turret press bolts are reinforced underneath with steel plates. The sad thing is, I now have a home and a whole bedroom to devote to reloading, but I still have never gotten around to building a bigger bench. The nice thing about such a small bench top, though, is it forces me to keep it clear. Only what I'm working on at the time can stay on top. Everything else MUST go back on the shelves ;)

How's the noise level with the tumbler mounted like that?
That is one thing I try to be considerate of, not annoying the neighbors with noise from whatever project(s) I happen to be doing at the time.

It's actually pretty quiet as long as I don't fill it with too much brass (>50). Of course, now I live out on the plains (moved out of Denver to get away from the libs) and I don't have to worry about the noise. My nearest neighbor is hundreds of yards away :)

When I saw the title to the post I chuckled, thinking to myself "I'd like to see my bench too." Mine has so much crap on it that I can't even use it. I need to clean it up so I can. I have the same bench as c1demo two posts up. I got it at Sam's Club years ago. I have a similar set of drawers under one side and a cabinet under the other side that I store powder and bullets in.

I bet I have the same one. Is it about 6 feet tall and about 4 feet wide, with the same stainless steel doors as on the drawers in your picture? I store some of my ammo in mine. It won't all fit in there.

It's because the frakking things won't leave me alone. The grey one in the picture steals casings and carries them around in her mouth like a dog. 5.7 is her favorite but I gave her an aluminum .45 case to go away.

I've never used a traditional mounted press, but I LOVE it. Portable, easy to use. Mine cost ~$40 and came with a priming tool too. It's definitely nice to just sit on the couch/floor and process brass while you watch tv. I resized 400 pieces of .45 while I watched Locked Up Abroad last night. I ended up buying a set of the quick change bushings, not because they're hard to change, but so that I don't have to reset my dies each time. Cheap, light, portable, versatile, and you can write it off as a workout. :)

I actually went the cheap and easy route on a lot of things. I have a Hornady digital scale and powder trickler, Lyman combo case prep tool (chamfer, deburr, and clean primer pockets for $20!), and the Lee measure set. I have the Lee hand held case trimmer. Rough on the hands if you don't toss it in the drill but it was $11. I could really use an actual cleaner but the solution I use now works well enough.

Definitely not the fastest setup but I can fit in all in a box and it won't take me as many rounds to make back my investment cost.

Glad to hear it. I love the simplicity of Lee products. The main reason I went with the Redding Turret press early on was so I could set up for a load and not have to constantly set up the dies again the next time around. I've got three turrets (and need another four or five to take the dies for all the calibers I load), and I'm thinking of changing over to a Lee single stage breech lock press and a whole lot of bushings. I usually buy two or three or four die sets when I start a new caliber (like I'm now doing with the 5.7) so I can keep different dies set up for different bullets, so the interchangeability of the breech lock bushing system would seem to work great for me. For case trimming I have always used the Lee caliber specific trimmer gauges with a battery powered drill, and I can't count the number of hours I've spent trimming cases while sitting there watching TV. Reloading is a process to be enjoyed, not an event to be circumvented :D

Hi guys.
Love this thread!

Here is my setup.
I built it to be portable, so I can bugout with it if needed, but it also works great for taking it inside the house in case its too freezing cold in my garage, I want to be with my family, or if I want to load while using the best stereo. ;)
It's great for going to a buddy's house for a reloading party or a trip out in the woods to work up some loads... A bit excessive... Maybe...! ;)

It has a big enough footprint that it doesn't move around, especially when the side trays are loaded with bullets and built rounds.
The handle also stops right against the wood on a full throw.

Yes, I know this a few months gone since the last post here, but figured that since I finally got going reloading the 5.7 round, now would be a good time to document what my bench does look like. Not the cleanest, but a lot less mess on it than normal. Also, for those that care, the reloading block the ammo is sitting in are the primer trays from my BMG reloading, they come in handy when reloading .308 as well, insert the brass neck down to show a primer inserted, makes it easier for QC when working that stuff.

Started with one bench but with the purchase of a couple3 of AR15's (and 5.7 upper) I needed a separate cleaning bench so I built this:

This is the original bench and tools area:
