My new (used) Dillon 550B

Post by CenCalSplicer » 22 Mar 2011, 12:07

My neighbor was looking to sell his reloading press with all the goodies. It came with .45 dies already set up. I dropped it onto my work bench and set the powder charge for the bullets I was going to load and kicked out 300 rds in about an hour!!!! I can't believe how much more time I am saving by using this press. $400 well spent, now I just need to buy some more dies and I am good to go.

Yeah they are freaking sweet. It's all the case prep that discourages me.

Very true. But once I have all my .45 rds loaded I can go to the range and not worry about blasting away .45 all day. They have an outdoor range thats open 24/7 365 thats only $50 per year to join. On hot summer nights it might be nice to shoot at night when I'm not going to be baked to death. Plus there are no range masters so I can do holster draws and shoot how I want. Safely of course.

Snap. Where is this at? My buddy who was going to inherit the family ranch outside Fowler is still riding the fence.

It's the Sheriff Department range out on Herndon and 99. I am trying to get an application for it from a co worker. If all else fails I will ask my neighbor who is a deputy or just drive out and grab one. If you want one I will make copies for ya.

Cant say enough good things about the 550 - especially since it can load 5.7 rounds :thumb:

Oh that range, yeah that's a nice one. No thanks though, bro. I'm already a member at The Range and other than the hours the police range doesn't offer much more. If they had a long rifle range it would be perfect.

No problem. I am going to head out there and pick one up anyway. It's cheap and less restrictive than other ranges. I'm still looking for a place to shoot long distance, but the only good places are on private land so it looks like I'll be SOL. Coalinga has a long range but thats quite a drive.

Yeah the 550 is definetly the only dillon I can see buying I myself have a 450 aka a manual 550. You have to run everything yourself once I get my 5.7 exsperiement done I plan on getting one of the shell plates for sure.
