Ammo supply in CA

I am located in southern CA, south of LA.

The local walmarts (3 that I have been too) have no bulk .22lr or 100rd WB 9mm in stock, ever. It has been like this for a very long time.

My questions...

1. Has it been the same where you live?

2. Why are 100rd packs of 12 ga birdshot so plentiful when all the other common calibers are Out of stock? Heck, even odd ball calibers are out of stock. 12ga slugs and buckshot are out as well...
But walmart has those 100rd value packs of winchester 12ga bird shot for about 23 bucks. Weird. YOu whould think those would be short as well.. :ponder:

You explain the exact same situation here in lower AL. Birdshot is plentiful, everything else is bone dry.

Ammo is that way all over the country for the most part. Although, I usually can usualy find the .22lr stuff somewhere

Bird shot is plentiful because BO is not going to take our right to hunt birds away - just take away everything else /sarcasm

edit: the sarcasm was the part about not taking our right to hunt birds away - actually, he'll try that too

A 3 hour drive to the CMP is my source for 22LR

Shortage of ammo & componenets for loading & reloading has been a major issue since the election of "The Great One" :(

Have started to see some .223 and 7.62x39 lately, occasionally some .40, have not seen 9mm or .45 in a couple months. Walked into Walmart last week and they had one ,380 bulk pack. 1st time I have seen .380 since about January.

Same thing in Oregon. The shops that do have .22LR in stock, are so ridiculously priced... like $45/brick.

.223, 9mm and 380 have started to become more available lately.
Bulk 22lr is still tough to find a decent prices, but the minimum I shoot anymore is mini mags, Usually it's wolf MT

No bulk .22 LR here, haven't seen any .380 that was remotly at a decent price in months. Occasionally you see some 9mm that is bought up quickly. Forget finding any 308 winchester. That's here locally in southwest MO.

I am starting to see some 9mm and some 40 S&W on some of the websites. A couple of months ago I saw Federal 9mm target ammo for $20.00 a box. It gas now come down to $15.00...what a bargain!!!!

At the beginning of 2008 I was paying $8.00 per box for this stuff.

As far as the local discount stores...forget it. My local gun store (with a range) seems to have a good supply if you are willing to pay for it.

I haven't had a problem finding anything here in Central California. I don't buy a lot, but recently 30.06, .308, 5.7x28, 9mm, .45, and .223 have all be available - some prices were outrageous. Reloading supplies got scarce - and only small rifle primers were unavailable for a time, but they are back now and prices are manageable.
