Birth of a purple AR

Post by SpaceCoyote » 06 Oct 2010, 10:55

So after I duracoated my ps90 and my AK, my girlfriend was checking out the duracoat website and decided she wanted a purple & green AR15.

So I built her a lightweight practiCOOL, not tactiCOOL AR (I know it looks like a magpul ad). Just finally got around to doing the paint the other day so I thought I'd share the results:

Ahahaha I like it. I'm going to show my girlfriend this when I get home.

Sorry, but that is a travesty. All for getting women into shooting. Not for painting guns weird girly colors. That being said, you did a helluva job.

Space, EPIC props for a job well done.

Also, Gold Star for using the word Practicool and not Tacticool.

You're in Austin, why haven't we shot together yet? Take your girlfriend out, I'll take you to the range as my guests, you'll get to shoot for free, tactical bays, 100 yd 200 yd rifle. You'll need to test that new baby out! I'm an RO, so no one will bother us.

It'll be a double date, I'll bring a couple girls out, too.

Here's a picture of my AR, it has a pretty good blonde colour.

Normally I would agree. I put matte clear finish over everything that takes away any gloss. From any distance it's hard to tell it's not a black gun, and I don't think it would stand out any more than a black gun in a "tactical" situation. It's not like we did it fluorescent orange or pink..

I'm glad everyone likes it... Thanks!

Nicely done paint job! Very well done!! More importantly though, what does your girlfriend think? The color scheme brought the following to mind: "It looks like the Hulk is going to be doing much more than smashing"

She loves it. She picked the colors & pattern. Now just need to teach her to use it.

I told her it looks like something The Joker or one of his goons would carry.

Oh, the Joker would make sense too. The teaching part sounds like it'll be fun. I'm in the process of teaching my lady to shoot too.

Coyote send you a return PM.

I'm planning on getting my lower receiver laser engraved with the Longhorns. I'm doing a carbine match next month with another member of the forum, you should join us! It's not complicated at all and you need minimal equipment.

Your girl could use her new AR and you could use your SBR90 :)

As long as it isn't an AR ;) Or a 1911. Or any former war firearm. Except Beretta M9s. They already suck.

Space, that was awesome. I was trying to figure out where the 'green' was. All I could see was the little black stripes, then I realized...duh.
Not sure how you did all that, or the time involved, but you did an awesome job on it.
Unlike some, I say that as long as SHE is happy with it, that's all that matters, buddy! Gotta keep momma happy!

I already have a entry level poly stock 10/22 that will be a project gun, one of these days.

that one started out as a lowly $240 'stainless' 10/22. The only thing still on it that was made by Ruger is the receiver and the bolt. Its a pleasure to shoot...so much so, I think I'm going to buy another stock for it so I can swap it on for my use (vs. building my own)

Great Job. If my wife/ daughters waned one with pink elephants on one, it would get done. I would love to have them to go to the range with me. They have all killed white tails, muleys and prong horns. But have never been into going and spending the day at the range/trap field. To me it is no different than taking a nice gun and chopping the stock in half so it fits properly. IMHO The biggest deterrent to women in shooting sports is poor gun fit. I have chopped up and built Krieghoff to fit my girls but just didn't work. I don't run Six miles a day to stay in soccer shape nor am I a chef. So we all have our own things.

They do want their CCW so I am working on what to get them for weapons. We will see what they like.
