New member from across the pond
Hi ladys and gents a couple of my former toys unfortunately I have got any of my new ones yet on account there being built:
I have since replaced the LRS but I still have scope.
I look forward to plenty of discussions about a variety of things involving firearms, once I have some pictures of my new rifles I will put them up.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts

Very nice!
Looks a bit chilly out for my taste. You a long range shooter?

Re: New member from across the pond
Is that a suppressor on the rifle? If so what type?
Re: New member from across the pond
Welcome as well. I'd love to read more about sniper systems, or long range rifles on this board, so maybe you could provide some insight. Looking forward to hearing more from your experience.

Re: New member from across the pond
Thanks for the welcome everybody. I took that photo in january this year, we had a bit of a cold snap and some snow. The whole south of the country came to a halt, so I took the oppurtunity to get a bit of shooting in. I am a long range shooter, as well as a deer stalker and driven pheasant. I have since sold the LRS it was however a serious peice of equipment. It does have a suppressor on the end, over here their called moderators. We are allowed them due to health and safety guidelines. The make is a Jet z cqb, I currently have one on my 7mm remington magnum same make just the magnum version. I am currently building a 20 practical on a cz527 action, this will have a brugger & thonet moderator. Once I have finally got it back and signed on to my license I will put some photos up. In the mean time I shall get some photos of my other rifles, all of which have suppressors/moderators on, there great recoil and noise reduction are excellent with these things on the end. What do you guys shoot obviously this a bit more of a pistol orientated forum, Unfortunately we arent allowed them over here, apparently we cant be trusted with them. As for long range yep longest shot so far is a rabbit at 321 yards with that LRS in .223 with factory federals, next year after the game season closes I will have a stab at something a little bit further away. Any use I can be please feel free to ask, I look forward to some interesting discussions.

Say, alled12....I have a question for you. Which news agency do you think most accurately reports on happenings in the UK? You may have noticed that many of us have developed a mistrust of most of our media, and I like to poke around on world news sites.....Is there one outlet that you think shines over the others as far as truthfully covering events there?

Llagoud unfortuantely they can all be a bit sensationlist, however we are fairly lucky over here in that they all deliver good quality news. However if you wanted one that was the best then the BBC is a good place to start, it has gone a bit lefty in recent times but a change of government should see that right. Its paid for by the tax payers through our tv license I think its unique in that respect, alot of quality programing and the news is very good. After that you could try ITV or Sky. I would also say Channel 4 has a good news show but can be very left politicaly, they have been very good about our guys over in afghanistan and are known to chew up a politician or two :laugh: . I have put some links below:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.itv.com/news/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.channel4.com/news/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://news.sky.com/skynews/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
ITV are just creating a new web page, as for papers there are a couple that have the majority readership you'll probably get the best news reports from any of these three:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There are more obviously but you can try these for a while. I hope this helps, if you would like more info please just ask I will see what I can dig up for you.

Re: New member from across the pond
Thank you! Plenty to start with
Sometimes what doesn't make the news tells as much as what does....over here for instance, the corruption and scandal involving Obama's former employer and wet-nurse ACORN.....I haven't seen anything about it in world news sources and only one media outlet here is covering with any real enthusiasm.
Looking forward to your input!

Glad I can help, look forward to hearing all the stuff we dont hear about over hear, if theres any more info you need please dont hesitate to ask and I will see what I can do.
Re: New member from across the pond
That looks like a serious peice of equipment.
I've wanted to try the long range stuff but its so pricey. And this is coming from a guy who's into the exotic stuff. Any advice on a good entry level long range rifle? Any good resources?

http://www.ukvarminting.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Both will be useful.
Brilliant place lots of info.
I believe for you guys it would be definetly cheaper to get involved in it than it is for us. Simple example what ever you pay in dollars we pay in pounds sterling. The exchange rate doesnt come into it. Anyway enough ranting. There are a number of calibres that are good and rifles you can buy. It really depends on how far you want to shoot, I have a 7mm remington magnum that has a dual role, its my stalking rifle but I am doing up for long range f class and for some seriously long varminting 800+ yards. I am just waiting for my 20 practical should be with me next week, next year I am looking at building a 22-250 IBS shoot 90 grain vld's, 1000 yard 22cf. As for rifles well it depends on your budget. The most accurate rifles are generally custom built ones, however any rifle can be made accurate and it doesnt have to be all at once, you can do it a peice at a time, much like pistols.
I have shot Accuracy international L97 in 308 there not bad.
I had a Blaser LRS (pictured above) in .223 probably the most accurate out of the box rifle I have ever owned. It wouldnt be a bad one it has multiple barrels so you can change calibres easily. You can choose .222, .223, 6mmbr, 6.5x55, 300 win mag, 338 lapua magnum.
Steyr scout heavy barrel 308, .223
FN also make a nice tactical rifle in 308
Sako 85
Tika t3 tactical
CZ 527 really good value, very straight actions my 20 practical is based on one.
Winchester Stealth
Remington 700 PSS, vssf
Savage make an F class factory rifle.
There are so many factory calibres before you get onto the wildcats. 243 6mm remington are good, 308, 260 remington, list goes on and on.
Wildcats well there are hundreds the 20's are proving very popular at the moment; 20 practical, 20 tactical, 20ppc, 20br
22br, 22-250 ackley, 22-243, 22-6.5x47lapua
243 and 6mm ackley great fun 6mmbr stupidly accurate
257 roberts ackley
7mmbooboo
7mm wsm
308
There are many more and it really depends on what you fancy, generally varminters are after speed, flat trajectory and maximum splat factor.
I think the 6mmbr site sums it up for ease and low cost get a remington 700 action rebarrell it with any custom barrel in 6mmbr load up some 75 grain vmax's infront of about 30grains of varget, 3000fps and your good to go to about 800yards.
As for scopes I use swarovski's, however I do have one of the new bushnell tacticals on order I will let you know how it compares. Again personal choice, but this is where you need spend some money get the best you can afford, spend as much on the scope as you spend on the rifle if not more, good optics are seriously important. Leupold and bushnell are good, Nightforce & zeiss are better and Swarovski, Schmidt and Bender and US optics are the dogs whats its. for me swarovski z6's are the best but is very much personal choice, get the best you can afford and upgrade as you go, much like your rifle upgrade as you go.
The fun in long range is not just the rifle its the choice of calibre, working up the loads trying to get the smallest most consistent groups you can.
Then you have to find a place to shot varmints at long range.
I will issue a warning long range work is highly addictive.
Feel free to PM me if you want more info, theres just so much info and choice I will be happy to try and answer more of questions. I am sure you will find a number of the members of this forum will do varminting to.
