AES10B showed up today (Romanian RPK)

The bad(which I kind of expected):

Solid furniture rather than laminate

AKM rear sight rather than windage adjustable rear sight

My bulgarian waffle 40 rounders will not fit in the mag well

Fortunately this can all be remedied. I'll get some soviet furniture sooner or later and order up an RPK rear sight. The bulgy mags are hitting the forward part of the selector stop so I'm going to file that a little to get them working.

The Good:

The sights & gasblock are straight.

It passes the bullet test with flying colors and the barrel looks nearly new.

Chinese drums as well as romanian, chinese and soviet 40 round mags fit very well with hardly any wobble.

Now I'm trying to decide whether to leave the carry handle on or remove it.

I already cut the weld on the thread protector and the threads and muzzle device detent pin are in perfect condition. I also knocked off the front sight...ditched the crappy PKM bipod that it came with and installed the correct bipod that I had already ordered from MGS a week ago. Front sight went back on straight with only a little cursing. The PKM bipod that came on the gun is shorter and doesnt allow the gun to rest on its stock with either a 40 rounder or drum.

Overall, it looks really good and the few issues I have with it will be remedied anyway as I "Russianize" it



I'll be building a transit chest for this thing ASAP.

You need a cabin with a nice gun vault in Nevada or something.

There is always Heston's vaults. His house may be up for sale. He doesn't haven't any use for it. Unknown if the vaults come full or empty.

Betcha most of those have been donated to museums or something like that. The picture I saw (not sure if it was really his vault) had some pretty valuble antiques in it.

I remember the pictures that were on the net showing his house and vault. I understand he anothe just for ammo for the guns. With it was true, who knows. But the pictures were breathtaking.

Will do. The carry handle gets right in the way when you try to grab the handguards. It's just held on with a small e-clip so I popped it off already. Now I just need to dremel the carry handle attachment bracket thingy off. I'll do that right before the refinish.

I'm trying to justify the purchase of some soviet laminate furniture to the wife right now.....
