A further observation would recognize that most of these have 5.7 already in their names.

Re: Israel's TAVOR
Good point.
But no matter how succinct anyone is in their posting and in using the "5.7" under context, you KNOW the majority of people would still completely miss it and not get what the poster is saying.
The majority of times I see the platform "FiveseveN" referred to, I see it spelled or written incorrectly, such that it is difficult to understand if they are referring to the cartridge or the actual pistol, itself. A quick google will find you a lot of posts on other forums.
I wonder if they will have common threading on the Tavor, or some weird thread dimensions.
Putting a comp on there would be so much fun!

Yes, I have one on mine. It helped smooth out the trigger but did not decrease the travel length nor significantly reduce the pull weight. Basically all it does is eliminate the sliding friction of two unpolished plastic surfaces.SHEEPDOG wrote:Rapier, have you tried nue-trigger. I sure like mine.

Yeah... I like the fact that it is a 1. bullpup 2. Israeli origin
but the numbers don't meet the value.

Anyone know for certain if the latest version has been proven reliable? Heard good things but I don't know any of those people making the claims.

Uhh I've seen about 3 people on youtube shoot it, all without jams. That's as far as it goes, for me. Military Arms Channel went to the bullpup shoot and I think it was there, or maybe not. My memory on it is not the greatest.jgreenberg01 wrote:I hate you Blue - more specifically, my wallet hates you. All I have to do is look at that a few times, and my hand starts to tremble.

If I see one of our guys here with one, you'll bet I'll get my hands on it to test it out. I want to see 1. recoil impuls/sight picture recover time 2. Ergos 3. How easy is it to reload 4. Trigger/trigger vs other bullpups 5. Accuracy (if it can stay under 1-1.5 MOA with factory/match ammo)
Then I'll have to come visit Your range looks awesome, also.jgreenberg01 wrote:Seriously, if I sell two more houses this month, I just may do it.

Greenberg; the version you bought is the 3rd one, apparently.
No rail behind the sight in the US version
I like the railed ones better, because they give the option of sight placement further or nearer to your eye for eye-relief adjusting.

Re: Israel's TAVOR
I agree about the rails. I wanted the IDF version though - I can't even tell you why other than it's what I wanted. That spot behind ht Mepro optic is apparently some sort of proprietary system that they use in Israel for mounting a magnifier and I'm sure that if the Tavor takes off in the US... and I'm sure it will... accessories will be available without having to scour the earth for them.

Back on topic:
I emailed Copes to see if they have any updates on ship dates/quantities and they sort of backed off the end of March time frame saying:
Jeff, I’m sorry but no updated info and no way to know when anyone will ship for sure. We do not know how many firearms or of which kind IWI will ship us with each shipment so it is a wait and see game for everyone, sorry.
EDIT: I have only 250 5.56/.223 rounds left, and I refuse to shoot any of them. They are all going to be fed to the Tavor!

Re: Israel's TAVOR
I preordered mine back in mid-December and I don't think that mine will be shipped on the first go-around. I think if you haven't preordered one, you're going to be waiting until much later in the year...

Re: Israel's TAVOR
I just watched part III.
I'm surprised the weight is a little heavier than I thought it would be. I thought it would be lighter than a light-weight AR.
I really want to put a regular PWS comp on there and gauge the muzzle movement vs a tuned AR. The reciprocating parts; the difference in weight vs the AR BCG; I wonder what difference it will make.

IWI US, Inc., a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), has commenced shipments of the long-awaited TAVOR® SAR bullpup rifles to their distributors. Shipments have been carefully choreographed for product arrival to various distributors across the country at relatively the same time. IWI US continues to ramp up production and shipping in the coming weeks. An assortment of black and FDE TAVOR® SAR rifles in 16.5″ barrels and several black, left-hand rifles along with a small quantity of the TAVOR® SAR IDF model are among the initial product shipments.

Re: Israel's TAVOR
I haven't been able to get to the range with the Tavor until because I've been very sick with ulcerative colitis and the poor rifle has been sitting here begging me to take it out for a play-date. I finally got out and put a few rounds downrange today.
Unfriggenbelievable. This rifle has the potential to be about as ergonomic a gun as I have had the pleasure of shooting. It's not exactly a PS90 when it comes to recoil... but it's not too far behind. Fast, easy follow up shots. I didn't shoot enough to really play with mag changes, but with just a little practice, I would bet the average Joe could swap out a mag in about 1 second and be back in the fight. It's fast.
I sent mostly XM193 downrange, but I also shot a little Black Hills 55gr BTHP. I don't think this rifle is exactly going to be a tack-driver, but it's not too bad. Because it's a 1:7 twist, it will likely prefer heavier rounds. I found some 69gr Federal match ammo which I will try next week and compare all the results.
The only complaint I have is the trigger, but it's not the typical bullpup issue. It's not mushy at all & is actually fairly crisp, plus it doesn't have a lot of play at all. It's really heavy though - my trigger pull gauge's scale stops at 8lb - it went way beyond that point and I would have to estimate it was more like 11-12 lbs!
My plan is to put together the video review next week, health situation allowing. Gonna do the accuracy testing, show some of the ergonomics plus this rifle is allegedly Over The Beach capable: aka able to fire after being submerged in water and not completely dried... yes I will be testing that.
So if you never hear from me again, you can guess what went wrong.

Greenberg,
Local shop got one in and the trigger really turned me off. The one they got in had a similar trigger. I thought the safety was still on and checked and it wasn't.
Anyways, Congrats. I'm hoping you enjoy your purchase and hopefully find a way to reduce the weight a bit.

The trigger isn't the greatest.
My biggest complaint with my M4-2000 suppressor is the blowback. I might try shooting it with my SDN-6 and see if it eases up a bit.
It is a lot of fun and a well designed, easy to hold weapon.

I handled the tavor yesterday at the convention, its very heavy and to me, a little akward.

I paid just under MSRP for my flat top & the IDF version I have on preorder was $200 < MSRP.
If you forget GB and look around, you can find them without the insane markups. You probably will pay MSRP though.

Re: Israel's TAVOR
This was supposed to be a quick review of the Tavor, buttttt...
Once I started shooting this gun I just couldn't stop! I did accuracy testing with different rounds, also... IWI claims that the Tavor is Over-the-Beach capable and I wanted to see if that was true. Did it function properly after being completely submerged or did it result in a kaboom/trip to the ER?
I will say that this gun's ergonomics are incredible and on top of that, if you have a bunch-o-5.56 rounds to play with... this has got to be the most fun I have had shooting in a loooong time.
The only downside is the trigger. While it doesn't have the typical bullpup mushiness; it actually has a very clean break, it's fracking HEAVY. I mean heavy to the point where, during the accuracy testing, I literally had to stop to see if the safety was on. It did lighten up about four pounds (yes, 4lbs!) after several hundred rounds, but it's still incredibly distracting & tiring if you're shooting a lot of rounds. I am now going in search for a gunsmith who is competent/willing to work on this newly released gun and I will keep you all posted if anything changes.

1) The trigger weight went from 14lbs to 10lbs after 600 or so rounds
2) There's a second spring used to make the trigger reset more positive that can be removed. When I did that, the pull went down to 7.5lbs. It was a very noticeable change.
3) Next up will be some polishing, and I figure that should be good for shaving off some additional weight. I'll do that after my next range outing which will be next Monday.
Here is the trigger pack with the reset spring (left) and without (right). It's just held in with a roll pin.

Re: Israel's TAVOR
Polishing up trigger parts is beyond my knowledge level, but I bet for $50 or so Bill Springfield would do it.
I am going to try removing that spring and retesting the draw weight - that is a big 'wow'. The Tavor with half the trigger pull weight would be fantastic.
Just sent Bill some picks and info to see what he has to say. I don't know a better person to ask to smooth out and lighten a trigger.

The trigger is no biggie and no problem. Frankly, the FS2000 trigger makes the TAVOR trigger feel like some kind of precision/custom trigger.

Re: Israel's TAVOR
Looks like accuracy is fine, just as I expected. The barrel markings on the specimen I checked out indicated CHF.
1-1.5 MOA @ 100 yds

Re: Israel's TAVOR
Congrats on your purchase, I'm sure you will fall in love with the gun! To me it's kinda like a 5.56 version of the PS90/AR57. I'm not sure why, but once you start shooting, it's really hard not to empty the magazine. I don't have that problem with my DPMS AR15 variant. Maybe it's the ergonomics, I dunno...
There's just something about the Tavor.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts Lobo.

Re: Israel's TAVOR
In case anyone is interested, this is the first time I have seen the Tavor selling for less than the MSRP of $1,999. No CC fees either.
It may be just for today though...

Re: Israel's TAVOR
Had one at the gun show this last weekend, $1800. Got to hold it but couldn't cycle /dry fire it. I like the ergonomics but not sure about the ejection port should I need to shift over to a lefty for a couple of rounds around a corner.

Re: Israel's TAVOR
Hey, if you were closer to FL you could come shoot mine and see for yourself. It is so much more ergonomic than my AR15 IMHO that it's not even funny. If you don't need to hang a bunch-o-accessories off of it, I would pick the Tavor every day of the week.

I'd also definitely want to try the trigger before I buy another bullpup. Careful, I may go on a roadtrip for Christmas & take you up on it

Re: Israel's TAVOR
The trigger has gotten a lot better with use. It doesn't compare to one of my Timney triggers, but it's infinitly better then my stock DPMS trigger. Come on down and try...

Aw heck, everyone is invited. Just make your way to FL...
I plan on shooting the Tavor tomorrow, maybe some exploding targets too. Will get some of it on video.

I'm heading out for the last segment of 5.7x28mm IIIA testingjgreenberg01 wrote:Wow, I guess I know what my next purchase might be...
Maybe if I blow up my FsN I can buy a new MkII...
And a TAVOR....
I know that had no correlation but I needed some made-up excuse, no matter how terrible.

Re: Israel's TAVOR
Well if anyone can blow up a FsN, it would be you Blue! I can heartily recommend the FsN MkII, but the Tavor is a bird of a different flavor.
Thankfully the price is coming down, but if you already own an AR15 varient then the Tavor becomes an extravagant expense. Unless you really like bullpup rifles, or unless you want a 5.56 rifle that is at least as fun to shoot as a PS90 is. Or if you have a bunch-o-cash just burning a hole in your pocket.
Oh hell, who am I kidding? If you aren't biased against bullpups, then the Tavor is a must have (IMHO of course)!
If (when?) the zombie apocalypse ever comes around, I am so gonna be dual wielding my PS90 and the Tavor. NO ONE is gonna look as tacticool as me while taking out the herd of oncoming shamblers!!!!

LOL
My FsN didn't blow up. I shot mostly EA and FN but had two custom reloaded rounds, one with custom bullets. I didn't really care if it blew up my FsN. Doing is more important than sitting on something and never knowing.
Good risks.
The testing went superbly well. I learned a lot. And I'm finally done with testing 302840384 different rounds and having clay stuck in my nails for days.
