Cheapest AR-15

Post by jasoncatg » 22 Dec 2011, 21:13

Hey all, got a friend looking to try out the AR world and he was wondering what the cheapest AR-15 on the market is. He said he's not interested in piecing one together, but just something cheap he can learn about the gun. Any suggestions on what brand/manufacture he should start looking at?

Thanks.

I sold my Shrubmaster to a guy on this forum.. for cheap, he likes it.

I think you can get away with a generic AR for like $650, NIB.

I would suggest checking gunbroker.com & see what they have.

ive seen many dpms oracles for sub $600 pricetags. if he wanted to buy a built lower and a built upper and slap them together, it would get cheaper.

Buy once, cry once. Cheap is definitely NOT the best route when dealing with firearms.

Any 2-buck-chuck with a CNC machine seems to be able to pump out AR receivers these days. Shouldn't be hard for him to find one at a gunshow WELL under $1000 complete.

Heck, even S&W has an M&P model for about $600. They call it the Sportster.
Of course, some IDIOT decided they would just do away with the extractor and sell it cheaper...

Most custom billets eliminate the fwd assist now. In all honesty, they aren't necessary at all. They don't really help in a FTP situation anymore then slapping the back of the receiver.

Sometimes it's not about jamming a round that doesn't want to feed in a tactical situation nothing will give you away more then a loud slam of a bolt forward so you would ride the bolt forward and use the forward assist/hit the charge handle to reduce noise hugely.

Doublestar is good stuff. You best bet is to find a used one. They are all over. People bought them up when obama was elected, now that they aren't banned, they don't want them anymore.
