Oh Kimber, the choices should be Taurus, ATI GSG and RIA. The other mass produced 1911's. Now that should have P*ssed off all the Mimber shooters.

No one mentioned les baer. I think he's better than ed brown.

BTW, springer, haha that's an old airsoft term for P.O.S.

It's only a joke people. I guess with all the people snowed in they will bight at anything. Kind of like ice fishing. Like i woud know.

Blue why are you not in class. If we don't want to debate 1911's. we could always have Blue corect ours speling and gramur.

Yes I left out Les Baer and Colt, not relevant.

:D

Scott, how did you know I went through a thread last night and corrected all the spelling errors in every title line? Hm... you must have secret powers..

I've shot them all, they are all nice 1911's. Some have a slide to frame fit that are much too tight and have to be shot almost dripping wet (Les Baers, Ed Brown). I am pretty content on shooting any decent 1911. Unless I take them down and inspect the work, I would not be able to tell the difference between a Wilson Combat or a Nighthawk in a blind test. I shot both side by side.

I do like pinned grip-safeties, straight reduced triggers, high-resting beavertails, and lightened slides.

You can put ALL you want on your 1911, but the number 1 most important characteristic of a 1911 I will look for above anything else (after quality) is how well the gun balances. Last week I was testing out different STI's side by side, and even when some were heavier, there were models that were so well balanced they felt lighter and handled better.

If you want a tuned 1911 and can afford it, one tip; make sure it doesn't feel heavy and out of proportions. :) I'll leave the rest of the expert policies to the 1911 experts. Just an observation from one shooter to another.

People sure must be nicer in the south, I still don't get how you get to play with all these guns blue, Up here you eyeball someone else's guns, they're liable to call the feds.

Very very rarely do you just hang around at a range, they're rented by the hour, in, out, and on your way, sorta makes you feel cheap! and yet, very expensive, $20-25/hr.

Sure the facilities are nice, but I dunno, I long for the low-tech, laid-back shooting of my childhood before all the commando rif-raf came to town.

At our gun club, almost anyone will allow you to try their weapon out.
And, if you want to shoot a match but lack one or more of the guns to do so, someone will lend you the gun to shoot the match.

This will make you laugh.

I believe in cross-training; picking up any gun and shooting it at a match.

To that effect, I have NEVER shot an IPSC match with my own firearm or the same once twice! :lmao:

I'm not kidding. That's Southern hospitality! Ask Joe! He was blown away by it.

DC'ers aint too far off of NY'ers...

I'm one of the oddities down here just offering people to shoot my guns, half of them say they couldn't afford it, or want to know how much I want to let them shoot it.... I just chuckle and say, If you feel like spotting whatever ammo you want, I appreciate it, but otherwise, nothing.

In Texas you can shoot all day for about $10-15 outdoor. Not much need for indoor.

I knew of him when he had no website let alone what he is now. Although the odds of getting him to biuld you a personal 1911 now WILL set you back some serous coinage.

You should have seen his work before. He got sick and took some time off. When he came back he started doing the AK thing. Before that he was on the IPSC circuit and guys like Wilson used to ask HIM to fix their 1911's.

The shop mascot is a Hotchkiss anti tank gun that sits in the center of the store.

Yea it took me a little bit of work to find his 1911's. I guess now he makes Saigas into AK 103's. Everything I read about his work was fantastic though and they didn't sound -that- expensive for a custom gun.

Some very high end guns. I feel every man, no matter how many guns they already own, should have one of these fine examples.

6k for the work.

People will just pay that much.

Being part of the guild does help. Guild member lives here in Austin at friend's gun shop; APD Armorer. Works on custom 1911's. Shot his work, very sweet and wonderful.

A bit off topic but... please move if more appropriate elsewhere

I was reading on gunsamerica.com last night, and found an interesting description.
Guy said he had 20+ yrs as a gunsmith. He has this Smith he wants to sell "NIB".
Says best shooting gun he has ever had. So, how it is NIB if he has shot it, or how would he know this one
shoots superbly like some previous gun he may have shot?

I would guess it is a shameless marketing ploy by a guy that is either inexperienced or has a penchant for hyperbole. I don't know any S&Ws that shoot better than any other brand.

I actually just picked up this exact gun myself :)...yes I know it's not THE greatest 1911 out there, but for the price I can not complain. I really wanted a kimber custom shop, but I also did not want to wait for it or pay 300 buck over my local shops price to get it now. One day I will buy one, but for now this loaded is pretty nice I think :).

Is it possible to polish the polished portions more than they are? Or will that mess up the stainless? Just wondering because some of the pics I've seen look more like chrome.
