1911 race gun

Post by P-40 » 03 Jan 2009, 23:44

I have been shooting this gun in local clay shoots on the weekends and i have done very well other then the fact that im a little slow at shooting and adjusting after each shot. I am wondering what parts i would need to make this easier and faster to adjust after each shot an reduce recoil, and where i could pick this parts up. i have been searching the net like crazy in hopes of getting ready for the next competition but i have no luck finding anything and what i have found i dont know if its worth a damn. I had a compensator that replaced the barrel bushing but it literally broke in two pieces and then shot off the gun via the pressure of the spring.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Step one sounds like it needs to be go with lower power rounds, will decrease recoil and follow up times.

Secondly, a compensator is about the best you can do, at least a good one is, I have an internally compensated G35 that fires like a dream. You should talk to our newest forum sponsor Radical Precision LLC, it is after all what they do for a living.

Ok. My ears were ringing and I found myself mysteriously steered towards this thread.

I am curious. You say you were shooting a 1911 in clay shoots ??? :ponder: What ammo were you using ???

To start with, those (wannabe!) compensators that replace the bushing do not work worth squat. Obviously you had a baffle/comp projectile hit that dislodged it. Were you using some kind of multiple projectile ammo aka "shotshells" ? 'Cause muzzle end pistol comps are not really designed for shot shell use. A ported barrel may work but not a muzzle end comp.

Or, am I missing something. Can you post a picture of your gun and ammo used ??? I am sure I can find or make the parts you need affordably.

Ya i contacted you already, im using just regular 45acps..Winchesters it was just a bushing elimination compensator...they r like shotgun clay pigeons..a range in town made a seven circle frame that they slide down into..push them out like 15 yards sown the range on the breaded line and then see how can shoot all of them the fastest or who gets the most with on magazine..it sounds crazy since most guys are shooting things like glocks that have twice the capacity of my 1911 but it is a for sure nail driver. it is just a rock island armory 1911A1 with ed brown trigger and hammer.

Yeah. I think I recall your E-mail earlier. The issue is putting a 40 barrel in the 45 breech-face ... not the greatest choice for reliable function. 40 to 9mm is ok, but 45 to 40 can create some extraction 100% reliability issues.

If you wish, give me a phone call and we can discuss any avenues opened to you. We do the difficult all the time, but the impossible just takes a little bit longer. :ponder: :guns:

awesome thank u! the reason for doing the 40 conversion would be to lower the cost of shooting :guns: and traget practice..25-30 bucks per 50 is getting to be a little pricey..
