Steyr M-A1?

Post by User42 » 07 Dec 2008, 09:24

I'm thinking about getting one in 40 cal, and buying a 9mm barrel w/mags (or vice versa). Does anyone have any opinions about Steyr pistols? It looks to be a little over engineered if anything, and if it breaks I know I'm fairly screwed trying to find a Steyr armorer without going to Austria (yea I know there are some, but its not a glock). I like interesting guns and it looks to have a lot of good features, and I would really like to see how well the trapezoidal sights work in combination with the sharp grip angle.

I also would like an SPP (or the new B&T TP-9, same thing with rails), but I don't want to spend $1,000 for it. Having to SBR or AOW it just to add a stock or pistol grip doesn't seem worth the effort. Without the fun switch, it would still be just a bulky pistol.

Where did you buy it? I've got a friend looking for one and hasn't had much luck locating one lately.

To the best of my knowledge CDNN has the only ones left in the US, and when they are gone that is it. Price was $349 yesterday.

My local gun shop has them for sale. I am not sure on the price, but if you want me to check I will. heard good things about them besides looks. I think it's a nice gun.

A price and contact info would be appreciated!

Can anyone confirm that they aren't being imported anymore?

Shot steyr's; they're hard to find. Availability of parts and access. are limited now that Steyr has mostly pulled out of selling pistols in the US (correct me if I'm wrong).

I liked the quick acquisition sights and the compactness. Other than that, it was just another plastic pistol.

Will stop by the local gun shop this week and let you know if they still have it and price. Or, here is the number: (931) 270-7177.

Last week I shot both the 9mm and 40cal Styers that I have bought. The triangle sights looked a little odd, but wholly shit! My 1st three shots were all touching at 10yds at a quick rate of fire, with the 40cal. I put 40rds threw the 40cal and I was just knocking out nice see through wholes in the target.

I like the Steyr better than the FN 5.7. Maybe since I have the new low profile fixed sight FN 5.7 and it shot low. Low enough for me not to be pleased.

Shot the Styer 9mm and almost no kick putting a full mag on target with accurate fire was very easy.

With the videos I have seen on the Styer's ability to take a beating and my results. I give it two thumbs up.

On Styers website it has a little splurge and they are not being imported at this time. You can buy mags through CDNN or Steyr directly, a little costly $25-30 but high quality steel.

This is the only place (aside from auction sites) that still has stock since they stopped importing. The price is pretty good since they are liquidating. I was considering this very good gun (it seems to get nothing but rave reviews) but the lack of new imports has me worried and the pain in the ass getting one has kept me from "pulling the trigger".
