460 Rowland conversion kit on Ruger SR1911

Talked to Clark's , the maker of the conversion kits, ordered one, kit was very well made, fit in my pistol very well, took it to the range, kick was straight back and the same as regular 45 with good ammo. Weapon stayed on target great, for follow up shots, probaly due to muzzle brake tht comes on the barrel. Shot flawless, 0 problems, put 50 rounds throught pistol, took apart cleaned, went over with magnifing glass inside and out, pistol look great. 185 grain JHP at 1500 fps, 230 grain FMJ at 1375 fps, 255 Hardcast lead at 1275, this has become one "Bear" of a pistol.

Glad to hear! That's been my all time fantasy gun (or cartridge) for bear country/extremely dangerous predators since I first heard of it.

Just saw a threaded Remington 1911 at Academy's. $1000.

Seems like the 460R is a step up from the 10mm (obviously.. haha). From your loading specs, it's able to fire 30gr heavier rounds than the 10mm, around the same velocities.

Very nice conversion for a .45 ACP!

I had a very different experience.

I had it on a Kimber, and though it fired, the Corbon factory loaded ammo was showing severe signs of over pressure on primer. The firing pin return spring they provided was way too weak, as it didn't return the spring every time, causing one slam fire. I bought a heavier spring elsewhere, and that fixed that. Told Clarks about it so maybe they changed it up.

I also decided to handload some cartridges. A buddy was able to machine some custom dies for me off some old un labeled dies I got at a pawn shop. I started loading down the loads from where I thought Corbon had loaded them. I used some broken down loads as to utilize virgin brass.

I took the loading to the point of overpressure signs starting to show and put on chrono, and could barely crack 1400 FPS with 185, around 1050 FPS for 230 and 975 FPS for 255 Hardcast.

Unfortunately, I just would rather stick with the 10mm. So I sold the conversion kit. Don't really miss it. Have 10mm, then have my 454 for serious big predator defense.

Sorry you had a problem with the Rowland conversion, Clark's did tell me not to use Corbon ammo because they had problems with their primers. The Ruger came with a Titanium firing pin, used Clark's spring,had no problems. I will have to chrono some of the Buffalo Bore ammo loads I am using, was quoting from the Buffalo Bore web order site, they have always be very close on other rounds I have chrono'd. Thanks for letting men know about the problems you experienced.

I would not have used Corbon either, except at the time it was the only loaded ammo I could secure.
