.500 S&W vs Safariland IIIA vest

Post by Valorius » 08 Aug 2012, 09:57

just did these tests sunday. PAFOA members Preill and CocoaP were also in attendance.

This test was done after this vest had been shot by everything under the sun, including several 9mm, over a dozen 5.7mm, 12 ga 3" magnum copper sabot slug, and hundreds of .22LRs.

Only 5.7mm successfully penetrated, and only the Elite S4M and SS192 loads.

This vest is from 1993, but stopped almost everything thrown at it, again and again and again.

This shot was the very last one at the end of the day.

PS: I am the camera man in this video. The guy with the .500 was just some random guy that happened to be at the range when i was already doing armor penetration tests. That's what i call good luck!!!

Nuts. How far did it penetrate?

About a dozen layers. Each panel in the tested vest is 25 layers.

Damn. You'd have some cracked ribs for sure, but could at least limp away.

If you want to see cracked ribs, watch the video i posted in the shotgun section.

I hit the same IIIA vest with a 12ga 3" magnum solid copper .50cal 1oz sabot slug. Now THAT was a violent impact!
