I want a Ruger SR1911

Post by ShockedNKansas » 10 Jul 2012, 00:00

Does anybody know a place to buy one for a decent price? They are getting outrageous!

My advice? Wait a bit. Give them time. It seems that when Ruger comes out with something new the price goes through the roof for a while as people scramble to get them, then their tooling increases to meet demand and the market floods and the price comes WAY down.
I remember when the LCP was THE pocket pistol to have the price went through the roof and was still there as the supply was increasing and I picked one up for my wife. Now the price has bottomed out as the market is saturated. I wish I had waited.

I'm wanting to get it as a b-day gift for my father in mid Sept. I thought I was starting early enough, perhaps not..

Hmm. Well, if you are dead-set on that particular weapon, then good luck. But being that Ruger is my first choice in just about any platform (long gun, revolver, automatic, etc) this has been my experience over the last 20 years. I'm still waiting before I even think about looking for the Ruger 556, and its been released for a while now. Maybe next summer?
However, IF you can find one, I have a feeling that it will be a well-made weapon, simply because the 1911 platform has been around forever and Ruger had the opportunity to look over some of the best before deciding which direction to go with theirs.

I like Ruger wheel guns, but I won't by their 1911. No thanks. Not worth the price they are asking.

I agree with Irish on this one. We've had a few SR1911's in the shop already, and some were decent, and some not so much. I love the SP101, the GP100, and the old Security Six, but Ruger's centerfire semi's never seemed as well made as their revolvers.

For the price range the Ruger is going for, there is a lot out used (Colt, Springfield Kimber, etc) that in lightly used, great shape will run about the same price. You'll end up with a lot nicer gun too.

Want a Ruger that shoots a 45 caliber bullet? Here ya go:

Image

I had some Hornady 240 grain HP 454 Casull rounds that I shot over the holidays. All shot around 1900 FPS out of her. The 400 gr bear loads were around 1340.

I am waiting for people to just say I have a 22WMR, because the velocity isn't that much more.

Seriously though, the 45 LC shotshells that they make, shoot very good patterns, unlike the judge with 410s. Perfect snake defense, can't miss.

I don't think the Judge does anything well. About the only design coming out of Taurus and Rossi that has interested me in a long time is the new Rossi revolving rifle in 22lr. Only because it'd be a good small game gun for here in PA since we can't use semi's for whatever reason. It'd be interesting to try, and if I don't like it, I'll just sell it used at the shop.

Well the reason I decided on the Ruger SR1911 is because of all the rave reviews it has received. I love buying guns that are great values and people everywhere say you get a ton of gun for the money. I looked at comparable Springfields, RIA's, etc., and they just don't seem to look as good as the Ruger until you get closer to 1,000.00. The person I am getting it for isn't going to shoot it often. He will be most impressed with the looks, the fact that it is a 1911, and that it is purportedly 100% made in America.

I was going to suggest the Taurus PT1911, but, to be honest, I'm not sure where it's made.

The Taurus is out of Brazil.

And if that's the case, why not type up you're own "gift card" for an SR1911, and let him know it's back ordered, and pay for it awhile. And once it's in you can have him, or you, go pick it up. And in the mean time, who knows, maybe you'll find a deal on something a lot nicer.

Friends, I have located a Ruger SR1911, purchased it, and it is in my possession. I got it for around 650.00 so I am very pleased. It is a beautiful gun.

WOW.
Seriously, good for you. I'm impressed and intrigued at the same time.
Due diligence paid off for you. You got her for less than the price of a Taurus 1911.
Good job! Congratulations!

Taurus 1911 is $400 @ CDNN...
