Here are a couple tests that i did last weekend.
Armor: 1993 Safariland IIIA 25 layer kevlar
Test gun: Kimber Officers length 1911
Ammo used: 230 gr .45 ACP hardball and Speer 230gr Gold Dot
Gold dot test:
FMJ test:
(this video also shows the results of a 9mm 115gr+P+ Speer Gold dot test, which the vest also easily stopped)
Sorry for the excessive video length. I left it unedited so it could be seen that the results were not achieved with creative editing.
.45 ACP vs IIIA armor
Re: .45 ACP vs IIIA armor
what's interesting is .45 ACP in my tests couldn't penetrate even 1 layer of a level II vest
Re: .45 ACP vs IIIA armor
That level II vest you had seems like it was made of kryptonite though.
Re: .45 ACP vs IIIA armor
This was the newer level II panel I had. Same results though as the original super level II, where .45 ACP woudln't go through even 1 layer
Re: .45 ACP vs IIIA armor
They probably got through a few more layers in my tests beacause by the time i shot it with the .45s, the kevlar sheets were much more loosely stacked than a new vest would be.
Still stopped the rounds easily though.
Still stopped the rounds easily though.

Common, frontal area is greater so it's easier to stop.
