9mm. I may get another Kimber Solo since I sold mine, or I may go with the LC9. I am not a fan of 380. If I don't take 9mm, then I go with 32 ACP as a second choice in a old walther PPK that I have, or a Berreta Tomcat.

I put 380, cause that's what I got that's small enough to fit the bill and prefer to use out of what I have. Sometimes I take along my little .25 pocket pistol just for comfort's sake. I've found my compact .40 Glock 27 a little too big for a back-up (just too hard most of the year to conceal it and the primary weapon). Most of the time I dont carry a back up. Maybe an extra mag or something. Maybe an extra full-size caliber gun in the car.... but there's virtually no crime here outside of the occasional pot, pill, or meth bust. Hell, they put every single mug shot on the front page of the local paper,, even if its a traffic violation!

I like the looks of that new Kimber Solo in 9mm. Same size and capacity as .380, why not step up?

I can also see carrying a revolver (perhaps hammerless) for the ultimate in reliability. Afterall, that's probably why you would need a back up. They make some real real light/small snubbies in larger calibers. Of course they kick like a mule, but that wouldn't concern me in a back-up weapon.

Well I should amend my post. As soon as my new CZ RAMI in 40S&W passes muster with EA +P 40S&W it will be my back up.

When I do carry a BUG, it's a 9mm Taurus Millennium Pro on my ankle. That's getting really old though because it's kinda heavy/large for that so I am thinking of switching to a pocket gun, possibly a Kahr PM9 or more likely a CM9...

Well, if you can get one at MSRP or under great. The demand for those is driving the reseller market WAY UP!

But even then, I would resell it for 200-400 dollars profit. I got mine sold a week after I got it for about $330 more than what I paid for it. So now I will buy a LC9 or wait for my shop to get another one in 3-4 months and put the money in the bank.

haha yea...Kimbers are always nice guns, but you pay too much for the name. In terms of actual functionality and accuracy at <15 yards I bet even a KelTec wouldn't be much worse... Ruger even better, but again u pay.

If anyone has (and want to keep :D ) a Kimber Solo, it was on the cover of Handloader magazine this month and there are some loads and info I can pass along...

I use a slingshot as primary. If I can't scare you with a slingshot, then I pull out the Howie. That usually clears the streets. :thumb:
Of course, I've yet to actually have to FIRE it (thankfully). And most folks are too goofy to realize you can dodge left or right and avoid getting hit cuz moving that beast is TOUGH.
I think its the intimidation factor... :ponder:

Too bad spring-loaded knives (as in spring-propelled blade) like the Spetznaz(sp?) use are illegal. That'd be a cool backup.

Kinda hard w/ a one man crew, huh? Never fear though, no need to align that beast. The gas/pressure coming out of the barrel would probably either kill them, knock them out, or at least blow out their ears...

Actually no, that wasn't my point, and the Solo is crazy accurate for a pocket pistol. Much more so than the Ruger, or Kel-Tec, or Kahr, or any of the pocket 380s I shot.

And Kimber isn't really overpriced. You get what you pay for. Custom Shops shoot better than guns three times their price.

What I am saying is that with this gun, typical retail of $599 before tax, it is a HELLUVA gun. But you can't get em because they are backordered. I got mine in the first run luckily and sold it on the open market when I learned the demand for over $900! To me, keeping a gun like that when I can get something else, or wait for it be more prevelant would be an opportunity cost that I couldn't abide. So I sold it. Already the price for them are dropping a bit as the guys that have to have them are buying them off.

I expect soon they will be back to retail. Then I will pick one up, only this time be $300 plus richer.

Depends on the state. Legal in many. MT, ND, SD, WY, OR...etc.

I carry my Auto-Infidel here in NoDak.

I think he meant ballistic knives that actually propel the blade as a projectile. I carry my Ultratech auto OTF knife here in Florida, but ballistic knives are not legal here. A quick google search didn't reveal any state that does allow them, but then again my work computer blocks an awful lot of useful sites.

Edit: whoops, you beat me to it Grantness...

Yea, I got what you were saying there, both points. I have no experience w/ the Solo...the whole accuracy thing was a bit tongue in cheek cause we're talking about backup/short range guns. I guess I was referring more to their 1911's as overpriced. Sure they're great guns, but you can get something just as accurate for cheaper.
