Shooting the Almighty .50AE :)

Post by Buffman » 13 Jun 2011, 10:05

Not the Desert Eagle, but I do believe this is the only other Auto-Loader chambered in .50AE.

Needless to say you can tell from the videos, I wasn't overly impressed with this firearm.... Not a left hand person gun, and seemed very unreliable. Then again it probably barely has 60-70 rounds through it..

I have a Desert Eagle in .44 mag, back in Alaska I used it to hunt and as a carry for protection during camping/hiking trips and when I lived in Anchorage, EVERY Tuesday morning when I left for work at 5am there was a gang of black bears that went on a weekly garbage rampage.

You get kinda used to shooing off moose and black bears living up there

I really have no need for it now, it is not really a fun range gun, expensive as hell and I prefer my Witness Match as my night stand gun.
I should put it up for sale on the classified fourum

I have only shot the 50AE once and fun to experience but I have no burning desire to do it again.

Is the AMT gas operated like the DE?

It's just a standard recoil action, not Gas like the DE.

I would love to shoot one back to back and see the recoil difference with and without gas

Standard issues with all AMT products. The company was always border line and their QC was not the best. They had a 30 carbine version of that pistol that was fun to shoot.

They can be great and fun guns you just need to send it to a gunsmith with a check for about 300 bucks and have him go through it. I can recommend some very good 1911 smiths.

AMTs almost always need a bit of fitting and tuning work by a smith to work reliably. Also, you seem to have a few shots where you limp wrist it (for the lack of a better term) and the result is always a FTF. You stiffen up and seem to at least have it operate ok and actually feed properly. This is very common with all 1911 style or originated weapons. It only gets worse when you chamber them in hotter rounds. I noticed this with people when they shot by 460 Rowland.

Could be. Although I wasn't <profanity> pawing the gun at any time. If anything my right hand is considerably weaker than my left, I think with as I mention where the mag and slide release are, just not for left hand people..

Jay, My Dad has an AMT AutoMAG II and III (.22WMR, and .30 Carbine). Both of those gun great. The mags can be finicky on the II, but they run. A lot better than this thing did :)
