ATTN: Blue
Went in to the gun shop to pick up an EAA Witness in .38 super and decided to hold a CZ SP-01.....
May be one of the best feeling pistols I have ever held IMO
The Witness will have to wait until another day
Going to the range today!!!

Re: ATTN: Blue
The Witness is pretty much a clone of the CZ.
Just saying.
Congrats, BTW.

Here is a question for everyone.
The owner of my range LOVES his Taurus .38 super and raves about how good a pistol it is.
I have had a bad experience with Taurus so I am leery.
What is everyones opinion of Taurus semi-autos? 1911 style in particular

Enjoy the new toy! Just a suggestion- check out ammo carefully. My 38Super works flawlessly but will not function with Corbon. It is ever so slightly larger than other brands extraction is impossible. P.S. This 38 Super I refer to is a Taurus- the only Taurus I own.

Taurus is crap. Cheap copies of good firearms. A plinker maybe, but nothing I would stake my life on.Tachycardia wrote:Here is a question for everyone.

Kind of what I thought, but it has been some time since I have shot one.
Thanks

I am batting the idea of learning to reload but I have no idea where to begin.
I figure I can start a thread asking for advice in the reloading sub-forum

Re: ATTN: Blue
the 1911 series and taurus revolvers are the only taurus guns i would want to own. neither of which are the best out there or perfect by any means, but they are the best IMHO taurus has to offer. i have a pt140 that i absolutely hate to shoot. problem is it has fired every single round i have put into it (~500) with not a single hiccup. i just hate the trigger on it, worse than my kel-tecs. the problem is i hate it but it works flawlessly. their 1911's though are actually "not bad" for their price. CDNN has the 38 supers on sale all the time for insanely cheap, something i plan to look into in the future.

Re: ATTN: Blue
I saw them on CDNN as well, but I also see the Witness match for around the same price.
There is a 9mm steel frame Witness on sale for $314 I am thinking about grabbing and then getting a 38 super conversion for it.
2 pistols for under $500

Re: ATTN: Blue
Tachy,
why the heck did you want to buy a .38 super? Are you going back to 1970 to compete in IPSC? Or are you going to build an open-division space-gun? Brb grabbing a supercomp.
Kidding aside, why DID you want to get a .38 super?
I'm guessing you got the SP01? You didn't clarify in your post. It is the best thing to come out since the CZ75 & 97. Glad you didn't get the Phantom model, it isn't very compatible with the rest of the SP01's.
The mags for the SP01's are compatible with the pre-ban 75's which only take special mags; if you ever decide to get a preban.
You already know what I'm going to say; great choice. Let me know how she shoots.
Taurus guns are not top-quality, they never claim to be. That said, I will challenge anyone with a $450 Taurus 1911 against their $5000 custom 1911, Les Baer, Wilson, whatever if they claim it to be cheap junk
Seriously.

Re: ATTN: Blue
.38 super is fun but is hot. If you still want one, there is a tonne of reloading data out there for non-compensated pistols.
Glad you avoided the super. I love the 9x23 and Super, but it's not a round that I perceive you would benefit from.
Also, it's a bit loud.
The CZ triggers take a few hundred rounds to break in, then smoothen out. Other than that the gun pretty much shoots itself I have no advice for you. It's like a robot.
Make sure you work in the recoil springs, pistols generally come with stiff springs that need to be worked before they stovepipe your brass.

Re: ATTN: Blue
I have heard mixed things about the quality of Taurus guns. It seems you either get a good gun or a bad gun, and if it is bad it really going to be problematic for you. If you are lucky and get a good gun, you will be happy from what the general consensus is. I wouldn't take the chance unless you are buying a gun from someone who used it before and you know it works.Robar wrote:Taurus is crap. Cheap copies of good firearms. Re: ATTN: Blue
I have a Taurus 24/7 oss in 45 acp and I personally love it. The trigger is the longest, squishiest pull imaginable, though and I could see how that could bother some people. I don't have a problem with it, but it could be better. Other than that its fired everything I've fed it without a problem and has been reliable through a lot of varying circumstances.
My buddy also has a judge and its a fun gun. We both reload, so he shoots more 45 colt out of it than anything. Reasonably accurate for a gun with a 3" barrel.

Re: ATTN: Blue
Vis;
if you like the 24/7, definitely go out there and get the 800 series. It is based on the 24/7 series, and has the top 5 best single action factory triggers I have tried. Your jaw will literally drop when you fire it single-action. It is one of the kept secrets, along with the CZ's. Another best single action factory trigger belongs to the EAA Witness Match, another kept secret.
People don't know about these things because they traverse online forums and pay attention to big ads from big brands instead of going out there and shooting different platforms. You will have found something very beneficial, as the 800 series can be found for a little more than $400 new.

A friend of mine has a SS Taurus 1911 and for the money it's a great gun. Much better then the 1911 no names from the Philippines.

You can get a Witness for around 375-400 and Match version for 490 on bobsdiscountguns.com
There is currently a listing for a SP-01 clone 9mm steel frame with a .22 slide for $407.
You really can't beat that price for that quality

Those are not polymer guns, the Taurus' are. Either is a viable choice.
