FNP45 C.O.A.L. problems?

Post by remat457 » 24 Nov 2010, 19:52

Is WWB 230gr the only factory ammo that has (magazine) problems in the FNP45 due to cartridge overall length?
Been itching to get one, but need to shoot my WWB first :)

Only stuff I've spec'd so far that can be .015" over MAX length. that being said, I've shot 300 rounds of it, no issues in my FNP-45T

The first time shooting my FNP-45T I brought WWB, Remington JHP & JHP as well as a box of Hydra-shok to test it out (all 230gr). With the very FIRST magazine it shot three times, then click. Pulled the trigger again... click. I dropped the mag expecting to see a failure to eject problem, but the next rounds had not advanced in the mag. Tapped it on a hard surface and they dislodged. Yep, it was WWB. I put 300 rounds of it, 100 through each magazine without any more issues.

All the other rounds (as well as EA's 230gr +P's that I received later) were flawless. I'll continue to use WWB at the range for $hits & giggles but I certainly never carry it!

By the way, I recommend scratching that itch... get one... the tactical version with an optic co-witnessed is one helluva gun to shoot!!!

When I first got mine, I had the rounds get stuck down in the mag, using WWB, a few times. I have started smacking the back of the mag on a table every few rounds and I have not had a single problem in several hundreds of rounds.

Not trying to be a smartass, really i'm not. this is a legitimate question: is that really a good idea? I know that it worked but i tend to be more careful with my firearms. Again, I'm not trying to criticize.

Yes it is. I do this with my FsN mags, AR mags, 9mm mags, and everything in between.

Also, sometimes smacking the mag resolves magazine rattle issues :)

That's what I've got to do with my P226 mags.

Smacking loaded magazines is what your shoe/boot sole is there for...

If muddy, I tend to smack them against the side of my boots however. :)

I have a FastFireII not on anything at the moment, and a FDE 45 Tactical is really tempting.

It is the only pistol I'd have with a threaded barrel, and I think I'd get a suppressor for it, since the .45 round has the mass to remain very effective at subsonic speeds.

I had several issues with my FN 45T when i first began shooting it. Magazines were hard to load (WWB) and the round ejected right back into my face. (up and back out of the pistol). Changed ammunition to NATO ammo and had no issues. Still can't shoot it worth a hoot but working on that.
