FNP-45 Tactical, is the mag problem solved?

For a while I've been thinking about a 45 to replace my old 92FS. Kind of funny, I got the 92FS to replace my Colt Series 70 as a house gun because of the magazine capacity. I started looking at high capcity 45's and after the fiveseven, elected to go with the FNX-45 Tactical. They are virtually impossible to find. From what I gather, the FNX addresses a mag problem with the FNP. Since I couldn't find an FNX anywhere within 100 miles, I elected to go with the FNP-45 Tactical.

From what I've read the FNP can be kind of finiky shooting certain ammo, especially Winchester White Box. I also read a couple of post where they had case failure and exploded (with reloads) because of the unsupported case. The issue with the feeding is that the mags are to spec but any kind of round that is slightly oversized (long, like WWB), they have a tendancy to jam in the mag causing a FTF. The solution is avoid WWB or return the mags to FNH and after a million year wait they replace them. As far as the exploding reloads, I don't reload handgun ammo for that very reason. Another post I read, is that the shell casings may catch on the front edge of the mag.

So.... a couple of questions. Most of the posts on the mag problems were from 2010, 2011 and as late as February 2012. Does anyone know if the mag issue has been "solved", or will I probably have some feed issues on this new gun?

Second, I see there is an outfit EFK Fire Dragon, that makes replacement barrels (ported too) for $180 bucks. One of the posts I read said the barrel fully supports the shell case. Does anyone have thoughts on these?

I don't mind 'tweaking' a new gun, but I certainly don't want it jamming every 4 rounds or exploding in my hand. Are these problems 'hyped', or are these serious issues? Also, any thoughts on tweaks, like beveling the mag edges or anything? Any "really reliable" favorite ammo for one? What would you consider the break-in period, how many rounds? One post said to lock the slide back for a week to help break it in.

Given that I have had *maybe* ONE misfeed in a 1000 rounds with the Fiveseven, I sure hope the FNP ends up as reliable. Thoughs?

No one has any 100% factual data on how different if any the FNX-45 Tactical is compared to the FNP-45 Tactical. NO ONE has an FNX-45 yet..

I have my original mags that came with my FNP-45T and it was one of the first few that hit the market. the ID on my mags measures 1.295", and I've put over 400 rounds of WWB through my gun, not one jam.. The newer FNP-45 Mags have ID at top of mag of 1.305"

Of course putting a double charged load is going to blow. The chamber yes is not fully supported, but I've shot plenty of +P from mine, and FNP rates these guns for +P use..

The FNX45 has different mags, and a larger internal diameter in the frame. I posted a thread on this somewhere on here when I spoke to the FNH reps at the JSC show.

Most of the issues in the FNP45's were with bulk ammo. Basically the ammo had too large of an OAL since bulk ammo spends less time on the machines, end up with cheaper costs, and the bullet not being seated as far in the casing.

Never had any issues with my FNP45T either.

Found it, three posts down in this forum. It's late.

But again that's not 100% factual data. FNH reps are that just FNH reps. It's like believing what a car sales rep tells you what a model is going to have before it actually comes out or an official press release hits for it.

They were one of the few there not trying to feed me a plate of BS about their guns (they didn't even try and sugar coat the price of the Ballista, and they didn't seem happy about it). Stag, RIA, and Sig didn't get very high marks. Somehow Remington, Ithaca, and a few random others did. Mostly I was there to wire brush the reps if I sensed BS coming my way. A few didn't like that needless to say. Except the Bond Arms booth, they always have hot chicks working those, geniuses.

I think I'll wait and see when the gun actually comes out. I'm not doubting they've changed something, but too early in the game to say for sure.

Thanks for the replies. So it sounds like the FNX-45 is still "vaporware". The experiences you guys have had with the FNP is encouraging.

From some of the posts on the net it sounded like the FNP is about as reliable as the French Sho-Sho machine gun. I'm glad it doesn't sound that bad, more of a nuisance.

I'd think the solution for reliable rounds are either to buy nonbulk or mic the individual bulk rounds for length and use a bullet press on those where they are out of spec.

All I buy is bulk ammo :) I've even put some tula through it, and it ran fine. that stuff is 100Fps slower than bare min 230gr speeds :)

First knowledge if mag issues. My FNP45Tac has been a sewing machine since I bought it, and runs great with the 7 mags I have.

I'm just hoping the FNX45Tac mags will be available and work in it! It's hard enough to find the mags right now.

FNX has an updated mag as per local FNH rep, I've dealt with for awhile ( I believe him ). I sold over 50 of these things and the mag problem is hit or miss.
My personal weapon had one mag that would not eat white box, sent it back to FNH and it took 3 months to get a replacement, which works fine! Others have had NO issues at all

I've put atleat 600 rounds thru my FNP45 using nothing but WWB and have not had any mag issues, the only problem i've had (only about 5 out of 600rds ) is the bullet getting stuck at the bottom of the ramp on the barrel.

My FNP-45 hates WWB and semi-wad cutters. My solution was to run the 800 rounds of WWB I had trough a press to set the C.O.A.L. back to proper spec. They ran fine after that. Also, I switched from using cast 200gr SWC bullets to cast 200 flat nose (for .45LC) bullets.
