Well I am looking for a new 40. Is the FNX worth the extra $110 over the FNP? I can get a FNP with 10rd mags for $430 or an FNX with 14rd mags for $540. For the price difference I can buy extra high cap mags and have extra mags.

I buy my 40's for $2.50.

I would get the FNX for the ergo's/grip alone. The extra capacity is just a bonus!

If you have a chance to handle them both you can decide which one fits your hands better. I think I prefer FNX line because it is more similar to my FNP-45 (grip, safety, mag release, etc)

FNP all the way. Its 100-200 cheaper, its tried and tested, and it is the best 40 on the market for the money. I owned a Sig P226 in .40 and my FNP-40 shoots alot better than my Sig ever did.

FNX is the updated version, it has a few more features to it. It was made specifically to incorporate the control fuctions and ergos of the FNP-45 into the lower caliber versions, hence the FNX-40 and FNX-9.

At least thats what the guy said who works on the assembly line.

Then send your Sig back to the factory, because that is almost unbelieveable. Don't get me wrong, FNps are good. But not even close to a 226 in accuracy.

I sold the Sig a couple years ago. They are very well made guns but they are not tack drivers by any means. A standard P226 shoots just as well as a Glock 17, CZ 75, or any other well known gun. Sig and HK seem to have alot more hype than their price demands. I owned an HK45($1000) and sold it after shooting an M&P45. Once again, good guns but no better than any other mass produced handgun.

I would say handle, and get a feel for both if you can. It all varies to what feels more natural in one's hand. I would probably go with the FNX simply cause I see companies would be more willing to do aftermarket stuff (barrels, sights, maybe Crimson Trace [a boy can dream]). Either that or a Sig 2022. Both polymer frame, both in the same price range.

My honest take on the FNX is that FN introduced it to spike lackluster sales of the FNP 9 and 40. They added all this stuff that people seem to demand nowadays. Ambi this and that, all these backstraps, and rougher texturing on the frame. The guns are very similar besides the add ons. They make .357 SIG and 9mm conversion barrels for the FNP40, so no worries about custom stuff. One thing i will say is that if you hold with a high thumbs grip, the decocker on the FNP will activate inadvertently until you get used to it. The FNX decocker is alot more slimmed down and better for that grip.

M&P's don't even compare to the original they copied IMHO.
