SCAR Problem: Cannot put into safety

Post by eews3 » 02 Dec 2009, 16:00

I just got the gun but I have problem when I tried to put safety on. It will go half way from fire to safety, then get stuck there. I tried really hard to get it into safe. It just won't work. If I move my thumb, the level will kick back to fire position.
Has anyone seen this before? Thank you

Just a thought... is it cocked or is the hammer down?

tried both. pulled charging handle all the way back then released, loaded a snap cap, couldn't go to safety, then pulled the trigger, heard the hammer drop, still cannot go to safety.

Only other thing I can think of is to disassemble it and see if there's any sort of blockage in any of the mechanisms in the trigger pack.

Very strange. I would do what romer522 said, and if you've disassembled it before be sure you don't install anything incorrectly. I accidentally installed the hammer spring in my AR incorrectly once and a pin would keep getting dislodged slightly and I kept having to move it back in place until I realized what was wrong.

This is a picture when it is in fire position. There seems to be a gap. If there is no gap, i think the lever can more further into safety position.

This picture shows a spot in between fire and safety where it gets stuck. The thing blocks trigger and prevent it from being pulled. If the gap in picture 1 can be added, the lever should go further and act normally.
What does your scar look like?

Boy a recall or design flaw on a $3000 carbine is hard to swallow

How hard have you tried to flip it to safe? The SCARs I have handled have been far more difficult that ARs to put on safe, particularly on the right side of the rifle because of the lack of leverage. Maybe yours is just slightly out of tolerance etc and needs to be broken in? I am not advocating reaming on your safety but if your too the point where it needs to be sent in one way or another trying a couple extra things first might not be out of the question.

does anyone have a picture of original pistol grip screw shot from bottom of pistol grip? so i can compare the bottom of the screw to tell if mine is original. Mine says "THE A2-70"

I believe the gun is used though the seller on gunbroker claimed it is new in box. the problem is the screw in pistol grip sticks out too long and block the trigger from returning to the correct position. I put a washer in now it is working. it seems that someone did a custom trigger job on it to shorten the trigger pull and lost safety.

Is there any way I can tell if the gun is heavily used? Here are some pictures. What should I do with this kind of online purchase? This is the first time for me and it might be the last time. Is the only thing I can do is to talk to the seller?
Also the flash suppressor is loose. I can take it off with my hand without any tools. Barcode and Manual are missing. It is definitely used, right? What should be included in the box? The gun, magazine, a safety booklet, a lock and a manual right?
By the way do you need to take the gun apart to clean the piston?

THE BARCODE IS MISSING?

What was his feedback rating? If it was gunbroker you definitely can get him in trouble.

Yeah, at the very least you can report it as an improperly posted item.
