Soo.... where's the "FNAR Match" ???

Post by SeaHawkDriver-B » 22 Feb 2012, 11:15

Wasn't this thing supposed to be out by now? :ponder: Its on my short list. After buying my first FNAR from A&A Aresenal a few weeks ago and shooting the poo out of it at the range, I am hooked on its accuracy, range, soft recoil, and virtually unjammable gas system.

My only critiques on the FNAR HB.... I'm not a fan of the AR-style pistol grip even though its quite functional, I just can't get used to a cross-bolt safety with an AR grip in my hand- my thumb keeps trying to flip it off, and its not there. I like the adjustable combs, but I dont like the fact you have to perform surgery on the gun to adjust it. Presto... along comes this thing about a year ago. I'm alerady sold, I just need to find one. So where's the match rifle... this is the one I'd own.

Ditto! Have to say "good-bye" to my old Rem 700 in .308, if and when.

Confirmed, finally got a response back from FNH... they're saying its not going to come out. I've contacted McMillan directly to see if they'll do a custom job... obviously they already have the thing MADE, and their pre-production models are probably collecting dust right now.

A 20" HB FNAR can be bought for $1000 NIB... enough said.

The FNAR is already a match.

FN barrel and chamber.

Match trigger.

Enough said.

I watched the disassembly video... made me want to barf. I can't fault them for the design of the weapon though, its flawless, the takedown will just take some practice, a lot of practice.

If the Match doesn't make it to market, I'm just going to buy a 20" HB and be happy with it.

Another dead end... McMillan replied back. The FNAR match required a modified version of the FNAR had different guard screws and eliminatd the long-draw bolt system throught he stock... something which I guess McMillan cannot duplicate.

So neither the stock manufacturer, nor FN, is willing to go anywhere with this thing. Sad..... I wonder where all the prototypes wound up going?

I'm working on a lil' something right now that may solve just that and not involve any mods to the gun itself.

...all I can find advertised anywhere are the FNAR carbine and the 20" standard barrel. What am I missing? After looking again at Seahawk's "Appalachian" rifle, I think I can live with it!

I don't know who you talked to at McMillan, but if you are willing to wait, you can send in the exact dimensions and they can imprint a stock. Or you can have a smith do it. Not hard, about two hours of mill work. Even then, I think they have an imprint for the regular FNAR. I would give them a call. Their guys and gals are very helpful over the phone. I have on order a stock for a custom action they don't currently have an imprint for, but they worked with me just fine and are getting me what I need.

BUT, that will just give you a stock. In order to get anymore accurate you will have to replace the barrel, then refit the action and true it to the barrel, then lastly, bed it into the new stock.

Otherwise you will get same accuracy as you have now. Stocks don't do anything by themselves to make a gun more accurate. Even if you make all the mods, I doubt it will be much better than a .75 MOA gun, and if you are just using for hunting, I would just leave it as is, a 1-1.5 MOA SA rifle. Pretty decent.

If you have one that isn't sub-moa then something's wrong.

With a FNAR, not really. I have shot only one that was consistently sub MOA. All were capable of sub MOA three shot groups some of the time, none were capable of 5 shot sub MOA groups any of the time. Shot 2 heavies though, the rest were the lights.

Again, plenty good for any standard range hunting use.

Sounds like operator error to me.

That's a 7/8" 5-shot group I got out of mine. One of several sub-MOA 5-shot groups I managed over the course of an afternoon. I am also by no means a distance shooter. I'm just getting into it again in earnest now that I have the free time to afford trips to the larger outdoor range in my area on the weekends. Up to this point the majority of my long distance shooting had been at paper plates tossed on the backstop.

I had a problem with mine last month shooting it. My first two shots at 100 yards were dead-on, and then when my barrel started heating up, POI shifted. Maybe I should put out some warming rounds before the zombies come :/

That's quite odd. All seven of those shots I posted above were within 20 seconds of each other.
