SCAR or PS90?

Im having a hard time picking between the SCAR 17S or the PS90 TR. I like long range precision shooting which i know the SCAR will do, but i also have a big appreciation for the PS90 and the 5.7 round. I love both guns and Im just trying to get some opinions on which one to get. Any and all opinions are welcomed. Just looking for some point of views and maybe so info i havent considered.

Thanks for the help!

2 entirely different weapon platforms,, for 2 entirely different applications.

Surely you know and understand the differences between a CQB or intermediate usage?

WOW. Those are two really different platforms :ponder: The 17 is 308 battle rifle and the ps90 is 5.7 and more of a personal defense platform. Thats like comparing Boobs and nuts :lmao:

I would think that you would want a long-barrel. closed-bolt action for long-range precision shooting.

What other applications do you want this rifle to do? Maybe you should look at a "scout rifle"?

haha, yea.. i know its comparing two completely different platforms. My wife has said I could get one, and im having a hard time choosing.

Here recently Ive been siding with the PS90 but then i dont know which version i want, the USG or the Tri Rail... I had my mind set on the USG cause i thought i could just replace the sight with a top rail and mount an EOTECH if it turns out it doesnt fit me but then i read that the Tri Rail actually sits lower from the start, and i would much rather have that if thats the case.

The other days ill set my mind on the SCAR and could see me having a lot of fun setting out targets real far out and plinking, but then I look at the difference in cost for 1) the weapon 2) the sight i would want/need on it and 3) the ammunition price for it.

Its just a big circle i keep going around in.. Trust me, if I could get both and get away with it, I would. Right now though, its one or the other.

Prepper: I have a Bolt Action Remington M700 chambered in 308. So Ive got one of those and love the round and how far out i can reach with it. Ive read a lot of reviews on the 17S on how its a tac driver and a very good weapon. Figured it would be fun to load up 20 rounds and fire at a lot of targets with a Semi-Auto chambered in .308 win.

If your wife gave you a choice between the 2, duh, get the most expensive one. You could buy 2 ps90's for what one scar17 would cost.

Ammo, you can get 50 rounds of 5.7 for $20. That's close to $400 per thousand.
You can get .308 surplus for $450.

I have a ps90 and I wouldn't even have to think twice about it, scar 17 would be the answer.

Then later after she forgets you'd also need a ps90 too, probably also an fs2000.

You answered your question yourself  . If you have the 308 in bolt get the PS90 as your wife will enjoy shooting it  Then hook line and sinker Baby  you will be able to get the SCAR later on down the road when your better half enjoys the fun too :thumb: Two birds with one stone, positive thinking and getting your wife to come play :agree: You may wont to think about the 5.7 if you already dont own one or two. My wife and daughter love to shoot theirs since the recoil is so mild and their hands fit it fairly nice. See....Just think you can even own more guns than you thought. Just dont be to pushy and she will enjoy herself. I guess what I meant to say is keep the ME, ME, ME, I and testosterone fueled remarks out of the equation and every thing will go smooth. I have a beautiful wife and daughter that both come out from time to time to enjoy the fun as well as my son then we have a fun lunch afterwards. Just make it fun :monkey:

Seems to me if you can answer the question, "who is satisfied best by this decision?", then your direction is clear. If you're self-centric, then you have an open pass to indulge on the SCAR as mentioned. Which is a rare treat for those of us who are married to less than understanding spouses when it comes to guns in the house. On the other hand if you're family-centric, that too has it's advantages as Prepper aptly stated and the PS90 will be the shared familial toy.

C L you strike me as a conscientious fella or you wouldn't be asking the original question, so which shall it be?? You win regardless of which decision you make, and that's always a good thing!

Actually, I just agreed with Bone's post. So, I can't take the credit (nor the blame). :D

The SCAR 17S is not a precision rifle. You aren't going to be " setting out targets real far out and plinking" unless you think 100-300 yards is "real far out".

The SCAR 17S is an accurate battle carbine (16" barrel). A Remington 700 or even a Savage 110F in .308 or .300 WM with a decent scope (like the surprisingly good Weaver tactical 3-15x50) is going to produce excellent accuracy out to 600 yards and on to 1000 (with the right ammo).

Yes, you could shoot match ammo out of a SCAR 17S (and people have) and it's going to be more accurate with that than with 147 grain "M80-equivalent" 7.62 NATO ball. Sure, you can put a 10X or bigger optic on a SCAR 17S. But it doesn't make it into a "sniper rifle".

The PS90 is a short-range weapon and the ammunition is as spendy as "premium" 5.56mm / .223. The SCAR 17S is a 7.62 NATO battle carbine.

I have both - and a Winchester Model 70 Heavy Varmint in .308 as a longe range precision rifle (if I do my part).
