I am taking names of those interested in a caliber conversion kit for the Dillon 650. A freind and I have made some prototype parts and will offer them soon I hope. While we are still in an R&D mode, we would like to gauge how interested folks are in this potential product. Thanks a lot!

Hope it works out for you. I had a lot of commitment until I opened up order taking for them. There is a lot more time(money) and money involved in developing and producing a plate then most people recognize.

Yeah my buddies got the program done and ready to go, I have one prototype for testing ready. It needs some minor modifications and I produced some custom locater buttons and some parts for the case feeder. More work to go, but I should have a working test bed in a couple weeks. I know how it is, sometimes it takes a long time to sell a product even after many people said they want this item. It took almost 3 years to sell 50 of my 607 buttstocks even after advertising and contacting interested parties. I am going to make these, how long I sit on them is another story. I might make a batch of 50 kits and see how it goes. This is not going to be a flagship product for my freinds company, just a sideline.

I would also be interested providing you can figure out a way for all of the 650 functions/stages to work consistently and with a high degree of accuracy. I am currently using a 550 but would love to have the case feeder and auto index features of the 650.

The case feeder tray would likely be a seperate item. Right now we are working on the caliber conversion parts as Dillon sells in one kit. I feel pretty comfortable with what we have on the test machine. We just need two things, one is a list of people who want info, the other is to get the parts we have contracted out to complete their duties. Hoping to have a completed product by the 1st of the year or around Christmas time.

I emailed Dillon yesterday to see when they would be coming out with 5.7x28 caliber conversion kits and dies for the 550B press. See the reply I received today.

It's not easy and for the 650 even harder then the 550. For starter 650 folkes would want to be able to use their case feeders and the changes needed for Dillon to their units would not be cost effective.

I have been looking at making a purchase of a 650 dillion so I would also have interest in any items you have plans on making for the 5.7 accessories for specifically the 650.

I'm also interested in a 650 5.7 reloading conversion.

I would be interested as well. Love my 650 but have actually been considering buying another press to reload 5.7s. A 650 shell plate would save considerable real estate on my reloading bench...please keep me posted of your progress!

Well I'm glad someone is doing this, cause Dillon has no interest in supporting it... still.

I hate to play devil's advocate here, but I think a few observations are in order.

I currently load on an upgraded Dillon 450. Same as a 550, except it requires die changes since there is no removeable tool head. I had a 650 for 15 years, and loved. But when the arthritis and diabetic neuropathy caused me to cut back my shooting by 2/3 or more, I gave the 650 to my son.

I've loaded many thousands of rounds on a 1050 years ago when I was a partner in a small commercial reloading business.

I guess what I'm saying is that I have a considerable amount of experience with Dillon products, for over 25 years.

If Dillon hasn't worked out the problems yet, I'll take their word for it. They don't recommend using Dillons for the .25 ACP either. (I load quite a few of them, on my Redding)

If some of the folks here have worked out the problems for the 550, I'll probably be very interested in the not too distant future. But for now, I'm going to go along with Mike Dillon and do my 5.7 loading on the Redding.

Give it a couple of years, though, and somebody, somewhere, will work it out! :thumb:

Again, I'm not trying to be the wet blanket at the party, just counseling patience. Give it a little time, and something will happen. Who knows? Dillon might come up with a "mini" 1050 for loading .25 ACP, .30 carbine, 5.7 FN, 4.6 HK, etc,etc,

Orders fell to short to offset the cost to make them since a run of 500 is very small for a CNC shop and would have made them extremely expensive to make. This is not even including the costs of creating it. We had to buy a 650 just to make a plate. Plus time and materials.

What power die would you use? I would think the 22 hornet would work well but if you buy the powder funnel seperate would you get the "A"-22 cal ?

I know this thread is over a year old and Elite is not making a 650 plate any longer but has anyone come through on one for this machine?

The project was shelved due to cost - it just wasn't worth developing at the time.

I doubt anything has changed but I'd wait for panzer to weigh in to make certain.

We had them up for Pre-sale for 2 weeks because they are expensive to make and not one person placed an order. So we have shelved this project and probably will not attempt it again.

Here's a question for you... How many pre-orders would motivate you to put it back on the table?

I have a 650 and would definitely buy one. I purchased a 550 plate and don't even own a 550. I guess if I have to buy a 550 later to go progressive so be it, but I would really rather have a 650 plate.

I do understand supply and demand. I don't expect someone to build something if there is not enough market to cover the costs. Maybe as time changes the caliber will be more popular and it will be worth the time and money to make the 650 plate.

New to forum but have reloaded for years and about 3 on the Dillon 650. Perhaps the current climate would motivate members and non-members to buy a shell plate. I don't know if the shell plate alone is enough because there would also need to be the powder drop attachment and the piece that moves the case onto the shell plate...unless the ones from the 223 conversion kit or some combination would work. I would imagine there are tons of people out there with the 650 who would benefit...could be win, win.

I'll throw my hat in the ring for a shellplate as well.

Just got a 650 and would rather not keep the 550B around just to resize and prime 5.7 brass.

GONRA's experience is that you're best served to "resize 5.7 brass"
on a large robust single stage press to get consistant headspace.

Fired 5.7 cases can/will hava a "body bulge" that is really different
from the usual reloading we all are used to.

RCBS SMALL BASE dies verk great for me.

I have been working on a complete 650 conversion for over 6 months now. It needs more testing but I have successfully sized and trimmed several hundred cases. I will have a kit or two available soon for someone to test. This project has cost me countless hours and thousands of dollars but I think its progressing well.

Complete kits with or without the ability to trim are ready to ship.

Also parts to trim 7.62X25, 22TCM, 357SIG, or 5.7X28 on the XL650.
