I havnt been able to find any information on FsN brass catchers on the new forum. Does anyone have any pictures, instructions, or links to brass catchers that will work for the FiveseveN?

I just received one of the hand-helds yesterday. I have yet to try it out.
I was sitting here sketching, tracing, cutting and carving on a piece of kydex plastic, planning a snap-on catcher for the FiveseveN....then I started wondering about the other pistols.....lost interest and bought the hand held version.
I'm still playing with the pop-up brief case brass catcher idea though. :D

Hey, MO

Welcome back! I recall Vitaliy discussion its development on the FNforum, and it you have one, then it must work pretty good - functionally!

thanks guys... After looking at those catchers, I just went to lowes and bought the materials to build one myself: a roller paint brush handle and a 1 gallon paint straining cloth (about $6 total :D ). It wont be as pretty as vitaly's but it should get the job done.

Mine were the Crown Royals. I got the idea from Vitaliy. He used an aluminium ruler and I used 10 gauge galvanized wire. After some adjustments it works great. I also figured I could use it with other pistols with light rails.

Don't think we've covered the free standing brass catchers in the new forum (nuttin on search) so here are some links:
http://www.ctkprecision.com/index.asp?P ... &ProdID=12" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.bubca.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.gracomodels.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.brasstrap.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I made a 'prototype' similar to the BUBCA version but it didn't work so well. The FsN shells would bounce off & not fall where they were supposed to. BUT, it did keep them from flying into the trees, easier to find & mostly in one place to pick up so not a total loss.

I sure wish the techno geeks would hurry up and develop a brass magnet. I'm getting tired of crawling around on my hands and knees looking for that last lost case.

Didn't vitaly have his rail on his FsN snap off due to the weight of the brass catcher weakening the frame at that point? I remember a tragic picture of his broken FsN on the forum. Might be something to think about.

A recent inquiry about the FsN mounted brass catchers & I realized there is no description of them on this thread. I will leave the Crown Royal description to LK45. As for the wire one... The rail mount is a CAA® Forward Sling/Bipod Adapter. Cabela's has them for $28, some gun shops have them also but as always, you can never find them once you start looking for them. There is a nut inside the mount so all you have to get is the wire & a small bolt. I forget the thread size/number. I think he said he used 12 gauge wire (wouldn't swear to it), I also used rebar tie wire also but that wasn't strong enough.

The top one would be mine. I made it from a bipod attachment, 3/16" steel rod, some washers and a screw. I had to grind the screw down so it wouldn't mar the rail and the wire was just bend and twist. It works surprisingly well. The only issue I've had was with the plastic bags melting from the spent cases. I'd like to eventually make a more permanent (and fire retartdant) solution.

How'd you get it bend around the bolt so cleanly? That part is my biggest problem

I have a jig with a mandrel a little bigger than the screw.

My brass catcher

YHM Mini Riser Assy $11
UTG Brass catcher $12
A couple of longer bolts & washers $1

Approxamate assembly time: 10min
(it has taken me way longer than that just to try and post this....I keep getting an anoying message saying that "it was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image" and they are all simple 640x480 jpg's...oh well, if they don't show up in the post, just wander over to the link and look at them) : EDIT - finally got them to show up. discovered that BBcode hates picasa / google web albums :furious: ...I think I'll start a thread on that...

Final product
Note: only one bolt is actually engaged in the rail, the forward bolt doesn't need to be removed in order to remove the catcher

YHM Riser

Bag with riser attached
Note: the velcro that you see here winds up covering the bolt heads when it is attached.

Bent washer detail - to secure the permanent bolt to the bent wire inside the catcher
Image

Nylon washer detail - cutout in washer locks the temporary bolt to the end of the wire inside the catcher

Come on you guys don't like hunting around for the brass? :) I've noticed the FsN throws brass quite far. Well compared to my XD and the BE.

For the FsN?

The best idea would be to use a brass picker-upper tool or a tarp. The FsNs I've shot expel their brass forward to 2 'o clock about 15-20 feet, very consistently.

Don't mount anything on the rails.

If you're accursed to shoot in an indoor range, you can simply place a stand-up brass catcher to your right.

Hope that helps!

I found a good one on the web. There are many available. You might want to get one that can sit on a shooting bench or mount to a stand. I use mine for a 5.7 and AR15.

I merged this with a thread from way back (same subject) so don't forget to go back & review the old data.

I use a free standing fishing net looking thing http://www.ctkprecision.com/brasscatcher.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But with the upward angle my FsN throws shells at, it pretty much has to be right next to the gun to work.
The best/most effective option I've ever used was basically full top/right side containment :laugh: I set up one of those outdoor canopy things, spring clamped a tarp to the right side of it & there was enough left hanging to cover some of the ground. Couple of shell still bounced out the front side but it was pretty effective regardless of shooting position :laugh:
