AE 5.7x28mm primer observation

Post by VeTTeMaNC486 » 30 May 2013, 06:13

Interesting observation.

I have two different boxes boxes of ae 5.7 sitting here. One has 12 on the head stamp the other has 13 on the head stamp. The primers look identical. I thought the new stuff was lead free and supposed to have a black colored primer? Neither box says anything about either being lead free, in fact they both have the lead warning on the inside flap of the box. Also, neither the 12 nor the 13 has the primers staked in, which kind of concerns me as far as reloading this brass is concerned.

Thoughts?

I've been reloading them with no problems since they first came out. And I believe it was only the SS197SR that was going lead free.

Agreed, I think AE still uses regular primers.

I wouldn't worry about the primer staking - I'd reload them until they failed in some way.

The new Lead Free ammo is the SS197SR, not the AE.

Word. I don't know why, but for some reason I swore I read on here that it was gonna be LF too. Good, I like being able to buy rounds with leaded primers.

Thanks guys!
