Just to let everyone know. I have found this ammo at Big R for 19.99 a box. The sad part is they have a two box limit

:thumb: thanks for the heads up malern28us, 2 box limit :( that stinks but I'm glad to see the ammo at a decent price.

This new Eagle ammo practically went through my steel plate. I thought this new ammo was supposed to be weak? Could be my new favorite! The other rounds in the picture are the LF196 hollow point rounds, which left behind large chunks of lead. PS90 at about 75 feet.

Mild steel, 1/4" thick. Most of the painted over strikes are from a 9mm carbine.

First time poster; thought I'd share my chrono results using AE 5.7 x 28 mm and a FN FiveSeven MK II:

Conditions:
70 degrees F, 3900 ft elevation, ~29.9 mm Hg barometric pressure
Chrono (Chrony F-1) at 10 ft

5 shots: 1658, 1659, 1649, 1656, 1722 fps
Average: 1669 fps
St Dev: 26.8 fps
Energy at Chrono: 247 ft-lbs

For comparison, the same conditions and pistol using SS197SR:

6 shots: 1737, 1694, 1740, 1735, 1737, 1716 fps
Average: 1729 fps
St Dev: 17.4 fps
Energy at Chrono: 265 ft-lbs

Always good havin chrony info; having chrony info in such detail is value added!

Thanks for contributing.

I'm surprised that the FMJ AE is so watered down compared to the 197. Then again, I shouldn't be.

Regardless of whether AE is as good as FN, the bottom line for me is that it gives me some measure of affordability at the range, where my aim (no pun intended) is just to maintain discharge/grip memory shooting the 57. AE may not have velocity of FN or may be "watered down", but it still shoots fine in my 57 and I save a few bucks--that is all I want out of the ammo. When I get home the AE and even the 197 gets replaced in the 57 with Elite. My 57 is for home defense and a little more frangibility is my choice instead of many holes thru many walls. It also complements my 12g very nicely.

I picked up 1,000 rounds of AE recently from Natchez. Mainly because it has been all that is available lately. I still have a pretty good stash of FN ammo, but it is always good to add more. I took my wife to a local indoor range and brought my IOM, which I shoot regularly, and her USG, which doesn't get shot much. Her groups were not impressive, so I picked up her USG and shot the worst group I can ever remember shooting. Then I shot one with the IOM and it was much tighter. I then realized that the USG was loaded with AE, so I put a mag of AE through the IOM, and the group was embarrasing. I alternated guns, mags and ammo a few times, and the AE groups were consistently larger than the SS197 groups. I was chagrined.

Yesterday I took my PS90 out to the desert to have a little fun. It is a few years old, with a Gen2 hammer pack and white ring site, with 1,000's of rounds through it. All my mags are factory FN with Elite springs in them. I loaded up a couple of mags with AE. Just shooting at cans, so no real opportunity for accuracy comparison, but it jammed 3 times. I can't recall it ever jamming in the past. A simple failure to feed that was easy to clear. I just racked it and a new cartridge and empty case dropped at my feet.

Easy choice for me, I just won't shoot that stuff any more. I hope to see blue boxes on the shelf someday soon.

Other users on the other forum have had many jams in their P90 with AE.

Nothing new for the AE in the PS90. I think it's the shorter bullet with a lack of glue on the bullet. When I pulled rounds down, the AE was by far the easiest round to pull apart.

Here were the AE5728A / SS197SR / SS195LF results from my what I think is a very early USG model Five-seven.

The AE ammo produced slightly larger groups but only because of a couple stray shots.
These were all shot with the same point of aim so you can easily see the difference in velocity by the height of the groups.
I did not have any failures, however this was brand new AE ammo I bought the week before.

I guess I could have posted the group sizes!

8 shots at a fast pace, standing, from 21 feet:
AE5728A: 3.0"
SS197SR: 2.5"
SS195LF: 2.5"

If I remove the two worst shots from each group (assuming shooter error):
AE5728A: 1.9"
SS197SR: 2.0"
SS195LF: 1.6"

I should also put up a disclaimer noting that I have minimal training and experience, therefore I am not a very good shot by any means...
