THOR subsonic?
I was looking at the Cheytac M200 Intervention and happened to see this page!
THOR Subsonic 5.7x28?
Has it been discussed before? I did do a search for it but didn't pull up anything.

I too noticed that last week. I wish they had more information listed as to speed, bullet weight, and if they are reloads or pulled and reseated bullets.

Pointless. Just buy EA subsonic.

:agree: EA costs less and you don't have to buy 1,000 rounds.blueorison wrote:Pointless. Just buy EA subsonic.

Better to have a tank when you don't need it then to need a tank when you don't have it.

Re: THOR subsonic?
To elaborate;
1. EA is much more accurate
2. Shot placement within accuracy > Everything.
3. End.

Is it actually more accurate or is that just speculation?

You buy the ammo, I'll buy EA ammo, you send me their ammo, and I'll bet you a box of whatever EA has in stock that EA is more accurate. I will even film it for you.srt-4_jon wrote:Is it actually more accurate or is that just speculation?

I looked again and saw that they only have specs on their armor piercing ammo. I wasn't looking to buy it (price is a bit crazy) but I was surprised that it exists!

Re: THOR subsonic?
It's nice to see the platform catching on. The more people and companies that get involved the products and technology will come along. My Blackout is the same way. All the cool new toys take some time to get to speed. Thanks to companies like EA and a few others the 5.7 platform is starting to offer some distinct advances over the stock platform.
Re: THOR subsonic?
If no one has compared the two, it's just speculation. EA is probably more accurate, but you can't tell how accurate ammunition is by looking at the box. :laugh:blueorison wrote:You buy the ammo, I'll buy EA ammo, you send me their ammo, and I'll bet you a box of whatever EA has in stock that EA is more accurate. Personally, I could care less what that other stuff is, I am glad to see other manufacturers produce 5.7 ammo and the only aftermarket ammo I will buy is from Jay.

Re: THOR subsonic?
Actually the prices are comparable with EA its just that Thor only sells in 1000rd box which is what makes them suck

That's what I was gettng at. It didn't mean it as a knock on EA.jmz5 wrote:If no one has compared the two, it's just speculation. Re: THOR subsonic?
They are, sorta. Keep in mind as ammo goes the 5.7x28 is a very small market. It is also not very easy to start loading for this round even for a big company. Add to that the marketing dept. sales annalists would dig into the market only to find out we have it covered more then a big company which is limited to their in house bullets. Where as EA we spread it around besides making our own.
Trust me it's no accident. If I create a nitch round I may only sell 5k of it a month. Perfectly fine for me. Federal would want to sell 5k every hour, literally.

I love all the specialized ammo you have! :thumb:
I plan on obtaining some, or at least get put on the waiting list, once I get back to the States for home defense. A bit tough selling it to the wife though since we have several handguns already for that purpose but I will persevere!!
I would like for there to be more widespread ammo at better (cheaper) prices than there is now so I can take out all my aggression I build up dealing with Stupid User Tricks™ (they happen a lot when you work IT) on poor defenseless paper!!
If I remember correctly (I think from this forum), aren't Federal and/or Hornady supposed to begin producing the 5.7 round under their own name?

Re: THOR subsonic?
Nope Fiocchi USA makes SS197 and then forced under contract to have Federal their biggest competition distribute their ammo. Fiocchi does not like this since they are also kept form doing any thing with the 53.7x28 round also.

Re: THOR subsonic?
someone on FNforum.net had posted from the NRA show or whatever that Federal or someone was going to develop a less expensive plinking round i thought.
Talked to federal ammo as they are my goto ammo whenever I buy stuff. Jack pot. The first rep I talked to didn't know so directed me another man. He confirmed they are working on the 5.7x28 and also are distributing the current FN rounds (probably known here also).
First one will be a target ammo. That will be cool for us.
Second one will be using the v-max round and will be competitor to 197. So we can expect prices there to go down due to competition... but I expect them to remain the same because of gas.
Talked to him about the frangible bullet, but he didn't have anything on it. Might be being quiet.
Nothing in their catelog now, but expect end of summer for something to show up on the radar.
Re: THOR subsonic?
Federal told me the same thing at the NRA show. I spent about twenty minutes talking to federal, and over an hour talking to FN. I shrugged it off. I will believe it when I see it.

Yeah, I can't get to fnforum.net from work (and actually, I can't get to fivesevenforum.com either). I was on there last night and finally saw that post again. I'm excited to hear that other makers are possibly introducing more 5.7 ammo and depressed that it may simply be hearsay.

Yeah, our IA and Firewall people are ban happy and block anything that isn't "work related." I'm not sure how Facebook is work related but there you go.
I can, however, get to fivesevenforum.net!
