New PS90 owner re. SBR CONVERSION

Post by Litehiker » 18 Aug 2013, 18:50

Enlighten me on the amount of time and other BS I need to do to get a Form 1 clearance.

I'd like TORS to convert my long barrel to an SBR. I think I need to remove the barrel before I send it to TORS (with a BATF approved form) if I want to keep my cost to $188 + shippiong. Nes pas?

You are looking at 9-12 months to get the form 1 done and back.

Yup, you're looking at a long wait, behind everyone else who is also looking at a long wait to get the Form 1 back. At that point (and only then!) you can send the barrel (and only the barrel!) along with a copy of the Form 1 to TROS to get it cut and threaded and returned. It's about a 6 week turn around (as of right now) for him...

While he has the barrel would be a good time to get your upper receiver engraved. Then as soon as you get the barrel back you can put it all together, and have fun with your "new" toy!

According to NFATracker, I'm looking at Feb-April to get my Form 1 back... Waiting patiently.... :wall:

Kredal, what's this thing about engraving the upper reciever?

Why would I want it engraved? What do I have engraved on it, my name? Favorite Founding Fathers quote?

When you create an NFA rifle, ie: short barrel or F/A, it must be engraved with the owner's name or NFA Trust's name. I added a little graphic that I liked when I had mine engraved:

I'm a geek though and I don't mind mixing Sci-Fi with firearms.

YMMV though.

It took me right at 6 months and 1 day to get my form 1 back earlier in the spring

OK, I didn't know that fine point of the BATF regs. <profanity> regs., they have the same force as legislated law B/C they are promulgated under the enabling law.

So we (my wife & I) do have a family trust. Does that mean if the trust name is engraved on the barrel then my two attorney daughters can legally inherit my SBR PS90 without one of them doiing another From 1??

Sort of. They don't exactly inherit the NFA item(s) in the trust - you simply make them a Trustee of the Trust.

There is no additional Form 1, Form 4 or anything else that is required for them to use/take possession of the gun(s). The Trust owns the items, you and they are simply Trustees.

When the owner of a nfa item dies, there is a one time free transfer. That is with or without a trust. But if you have a trust, Why not put your daughters on it and avoid that?
