Thomson Condender in 5.7 x 28?

Post by DonTom » 28 Jun 2016, 19:00

Does anybody make a 5.7 x 28 barrel for my Thomson Contender Pistol? Gen 2, perhaps a 14" barrel like my other two?

If so, where can I buy such?

Try Mike Bellm at http://www.bellmtcs.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for a custom barrel. He has been around for a long time. There are other custom barrel makers. Mr. google is your friend! Good luck.

MGM does and has, but I can't recommend them. They cut the chamber like shit and I had to pay another machine shop to clean it up manually.

Also, http://www.bullberry.com/contender_barrels.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; who does have a good reputation. I didn't spend time sufficient on their website to learn whose barrel blanks they use. Mike Bellm uses Begara blanks. Have fun. Love my T/C!

Well, before I posted here, I did try Mr. Google, but nowhere was there a mention of a 5.7 x 28 mm barrel for the Contender pistol. IIRC, I did see one mentioned for the rifle at one of the places I checked.

It looks like mine will have to be a custom made thing. I also saw threads where MGM barrels were mentioned and some say they are junk and some say others say they have had good luck with them. Perhaps depends on who is working where for that day.

Try again, it works fine now. Just needed to remove the index line it included for some reason.

OK, pick one if you like. Is it for varmint shooting or plinking or what?

It's just for plinking, nothing serious.

BTW, can somebody here please explain the advantages and disadvantages of various twist rates? I have no idea what I should choose for a twist rate.

With twist rates, the smaller the number the heavier the bullet you can stabilize. So for example AR15s with a 1-7 twist can stabilize heavier bullets then an AR15 with a 1-9 twist rate. Thats about the easiest way I can think of explaining it. Hope that helps.

Twist rate of the PS90 barrel is supposed to be 1:9" RH but it is also reported as 1:7" RH. Panzer will know with certainty if he chimes in.

Well, I ordered this before I got any replies here:

122-ABCUS Made-To-Order Accuracy Barrels® for Thompson Center Encore/Pro Hunter
Select Caliber: 5.7X28 FN
Select Barrel Contour: Standard Taper
Select Finish: Factory Blue
Barrel Length: 14
Select Twist Rate : 5.56 nato-1:9
Add Keylock Scope Mount: None
Add Muzzle Brake: None
Made to Order- Please allow 4-6 months

$375.00 x 1

They tell me to wait up to a half year AFTER the order is placed! But there's no big hurry anyway.

BTW, why does it matter if it is a RH or LF twist?
