Re: Usage Warning- Federal " AR Match" Small Rifle Primers

It would appear there in no issue with primer seating. I'm using a Dillion 550 and the primer bar is new. The failures occur in "only 10 #@&*^: % " of the loads in the FiveSeven. The primers appear to have a slightly lighter strike, have not had any issues with any other primer and the AR Match work...

Usage Warning- Federal " AR Match" Small Rifle Primers

Picked up some primers recently and the dealer was out of my usual primers so, I accepted a 1000 of Federal"s "AR Match" Small Rifle primers. Since I was coming off .45 ACP on my Dillon 550, I went thru the usual caliber swap over. Using some rather hammered once fired cases I sized and prepped, I l...

Re: HS6 or Longshot?

Just a side note to this ancient post. Kmiles observation that his loads were not registering on his chrono is likely due to muzzle flash. I have experienced the same phenomenon loading the 5.7 with slower powders, in my case 2400. I always check the chrono with some "control loads" in 5.7 before ne...

Re: Help with powder choices for 55 FMJ

Thanks bruteandbear, I'll be loading for the FSN. I was not impressed with the TB for the heavy bullet. Compared to 3N37, similar velocities with the same powder charge, but much more recoil. I'll try the Longshot and see how it feels For this cartridge what does it like, fast powder heavy bullet, o...

Re: loading with available powders

Sorry for the late reply I've loaded with Power Pistol. For the 40 Vmax I went as high as 5.6 Gr , OF Brass, WSMP primers and an OAL of 1.585. The 5.4 load was 1930 FPS. 5.6 looked really unstable.

Re: Reloading 5.7x28 with a dillon 550

I have been using the dillion 5550 with RCBS dies and the .223 funnel with EA shell plate. The EA shell plate is a good bit of kit and comes with the locator pins. I call it semi-progressive loading. I decap and size, then ream the primer crimp. Then I prime. After that I pull the sizer die and load...

Re: Tooled up and ran test batch of 40g Vmax w/ Blue Dot

I know this is a dated post but....I'm using the RCBS dies and my only complaint is my fingers aren't small enough for these little bullets. As for case prep, overnight in Tide detergent. I,m chamfering the case mouths to help in seating and I use One-Shot as a lube, after 1000's of rifle rounds, on...

Re: Has anyone used Unique?

Thanks for the link, but it doesn't go anywhere. A search on G&A's site for 5.7x28 also turns up no results. A search on this forum does not turn up any data that I was able to locate. A search on the massive search engine Google also turns up a lack of actual load data, hence my request for verifi...

Re: Has anyone used Unique?

There is a little data on this site, use the search function. Also an article that was published in Guns and Ammo. Http:/archives.gunsandammo.com/content/5.7x28-fn They listed a a 40 gr. Berger moly with a start of 3.5 gr and max of 4.3. I use it for 45 auto and tried it for 5.7, but found the meter...

Re: Early Testing With Hex Boron Nitride

It's available in various quantities from several sources. I purchased mine in a small quantity branded as "Derby Dust" on Amazon. Yep, it's uses include boy scout wood derby cars, for wheel lube. David Tubbs Precision Rifle Parts sells a kit, but it's easy to apply yourself. Follow these steps; 1) ...

Re: Early Testing With Hex Boron Nitride

HBN is slicker (coeficient of friction) than either the Moly or Tungsten Disulphide. Moly should to be waxed after application to keep in on. Moly starts to breakdown at 600F, HBN is good to 2500F. Both Moly and Tungsten Disulphide (WS2) contain sulphur, which can cause corrosion in moist environmen...

Early Testing With Hex Boron Nitride

Decided to test the merits of HBN dry film lubricant on 5.7 performance. The test yielded some interresting results, though more testing is required to validate. Loaded 20 rounds with a 40gr Vmax with which I had applied HBN via the shot tumbler method and 20 rounds of untreated Vmax over 5.4 gr, of...

Re: Is there any end in sight for the powder shortage?

You're right, my guard was down. In my peaceful area, few crimes happen. We always have glocks in the cars, glocks and an AR PDW in the house. When I caught up with the perp, I was checking out a piece of desert where I thought my stolen bike may have been stashed. My area of Tucson is pretty much f...

Re: Is there any end in sight for the powder shortage?

It's not worth the risk of a lawsuit. I know it sounds stupid, and when I told the LE I had a can of mace with me( just cam back from a dog walk) he said I should of used it. But he's not the one forking out $10 or $20 grand on lawyers. There's scads of Lawyers just waiting to pounce. I Id'd him for...

Re: Is there any end in sight for the powder shortage?

I haven't seen any pistol powder in like forever. Yesterday I accidently left my garage door open. A thief stole 400 rds of 197 and 400 rds of reloads along with 2 lbs of pistol powder. I caught the dirtbag and recovered my bike, ID'd him for the Sheriff, but I doubt they'll pick him up. Luckily I'v...

Owned a .308 back in the day. Heavy, finger slapping tank. They are
just an AK and not much sexier. Noticed that the Isrealies stopped making them as soon as Uzi Gal died. Expensive, heavy weapons. Give me an M-4 thank you much.

Re: Secret Serviced 5.7 Duty Round

Thanks Buffman, I saw a blurb on TV about SS favoring the 5.7 to reduce over penetration "via fragmentation". Sounded like SS197. I figured SS190 would be in the mix, with body armor so prevalent.

Vit. N340 Reloading

With powder availability down, I decided to try some N340 I had on hand w/ some interesting results. Using the Lyman 49th edition data I loaded 5 each of the following. I was more interested in safety and function than collecting a lot of velocity data Fired from the FiveSeven. 4.4 gr N340, (startin...

Don't Fear the Reloading

I've been loading for IPSC and 3 gun for 20 years, but I held off on the 5.7 for a couple of years. I finally decided that $30 box was too much. So I dug out the once fired cases, bought an RCBS die set ( follow the instructions) and an Elite Ammo shell plate for my 550. Case prep is a pain with the...
