To SBR or not to SBR

I like the extra 150 fps. velocity of my factory PS90 barrel over the SBR version (Wikipedia source for velocity loss). OTOH I like the "extra badassery" of the SBR on an already badass carbine. I guess if I consider 100 yards as my max effective range I could go with the SBR. One inch lower traject...

Re: CA PS90 owner... Help needed

Welding?? Pinning?? Just spray the metal parts with a good protective oil, put it in a large PVC pipe with lots of ammo sealed in plastic bags, glue end caps on the PVC tube and bury it until the Zombie Apocalypse, meteor strike or SHTF of some other sort. I live in Nevada, not The People's Republic...

Most "Ballistic Reticles" lie!

This is B/C they are made with ONE load at ONE altitude and ONE temperature. Change any of those very much and the "ballistic reticle" lies to you.

5.7 x 28 tracer ammo?

Is there any 5.7 tracer ammo available? I'd like to get about 600 rounds.

Re: Can anyone recommend a really good 5.7x28 ballistics scope?

I wish my Vortex SPARC II red dot had a circle/dot reticle. Then I'd have two aiming points, one for 5 - 15 yards and one for 50 - 100 yards. They would at least get me in the ballpark.

Re: Two NEW firearm models chambered for 5.7x28mm by EXCEL ARMS

I'd buy a pistol in .22 WMR if the barrel were, say, 5 or 6 inches. Eight inches for a .22 WRM pistol barrel is a bit too long for my taste. But the price is OK.

Re: New PS90 Owner (ranging questions)

"200 yards Murder1" Hee, hee Yes, you would have to be damn deliberate to get a good hit at 200 yards with a PS90, even with the 16" barrel version. And most courts would see "deliberation" as "pre-meditation". This post is interesting B/C last week I sighted in my PS90 with its new Vortex SPARC II ...

P90 5.7 x 28 v.s. MP7 4.6 x 30 ammo

Since the Germans just had to re-invent the high velocity sub gun ammo wheel have there been any comparisons of the P90 ammo and the H&K MP7 ammo. With a smaller bullet the MP7 round likely travels faster than the P90 round but it will retain less energy for CQB battle which is usually within 25 met...

Re: Ammo Question:

Right! Elite is the one "smaller" fabricator of 5.7 x 28 ammo that I trust. And they seem to have about the same velocity as FN.V-Max ammo in most of their loads. I've seen Youtube tests of FN, AE, and Elite ammo on 3/16 wall square steel tubing fired thru a PS90 SBR. The FN and Elite ammo did prett...

Re: Ammo Question:

Are there other small 5.7 x28 ammo makers that produce reliable as well as "speedy" ammo? (as in a bit faster than FN ammo) During "The Great Ammo Shortage" one custom loader has so many requests for his ammo that he quit taking orders so he could fill his months of backorders. I'll have to GOOGLE h...

Re: How much velocity is lost with an SBR?

Thanks for the prompt reply Buffman. I can live with a 100 FPS loss for a CQB weapon. I use FN ammo, which from testing I know is faster than Federal's American Eagle ammo. And I also know that, even with 100 FPS slower velocity, it still has much more energy at 100 yards than the tiny ammo from the...

Yep, I've noticed my American Eagle ammo shoots lower than the FN ammo. Lower = slower. 'Nuff sed!

Re: HK MP7 chambered in 5.7 x 28

Yeah, H&K fell prey to the mostly American syndrome of "Not Invented Here" (the P90) so they invented their own sub gun that would defeat Level III soft body armor. And so they did, developing a cartridge that has less kinetic energy downrange than the 5/8x28 and a gun that is good but not as innova...

Re: Optics Conundrum

How much velocity is lost with an SBR?

When I go to an SPB how much muzzle velocity will I lose with that lost 6 inches?

Q. Why are women such a bad judge of distance?
A. Because men have them convinced that this 8--------------------------------------<) is 6 inches. ;)

VERY nice! SUCH baddddassery! I have a lot of the mods you do and soon an SBR barrel and FN type flash hider. My sight is a Vortex SPARC II red dot on a TROS Low Mount. Now it comes up perfectly to my line of sight every time. No need for a cheek piece. BTW, I put a Magpul rail on the right side of ...

The Vortex SPARC II ships with a low mount And high mount and a shim as well. The shim can be used with either mount. With the TROS Low Mount and the SPARC II low mount my eye comes right up to the sight line every time. No need for an aftermarket cheekpiece. MY PS90 MODS: 1. CF reinforced polymer e...
