Re: Need help 30gn Varmint Grenade
My coal was 1.554" and started at 6gr of AA#5. I tested it along side of True Blue and Longshot and found I got smaller sd and higher velocities with TB and LS. I was never really fond of AA#5 and only use it now when testing a new bullet. Using Longshot start at 5.8gr and work up.

On AE brass the primers are not crimped in. I have seen some SS197/SS195 both with a crimp and without. Where as the ss198 primers are crimped and also have the green primer sealant on them. The primer sealant is only on the mil/police rounds.

With twist rates, the smaller the number the heavier the bullet you can stabilize. So for example AR15s with a 1-7 twist can stabilize heavier bullets then an AR15 with a 1-9 twist rate. Thats about the easiest way I can think of explaining it. Hope that helps.

One other thing that can cause the inconsistencies is the amount of crimp. If every case is not crimped with equal pressure and location on the neck and such can also cause that. Thats why crimping can be such a pita to get set right.

My personal favorite for heavy bullets is VVN105. It's clean burning and has a mild kick compared to True blue and Longshot. Blue dot also works but is very dirty compared to other powders imo.

I have a 12" Gen2 upper. With a magazine in the handles do have a slight wiggle to them. Empty they don't. The slight wiggle has never been an issue for me. I have both AR57 mags and FNH mags and they both lock in tight. I have never had any feeding or charging issue with either type of mag either. ...

I have a 12" Gen 2 AR57 that has performed flawlessly. I have it on a lower that I pieced together myself. As for the full auto bolt carrier the only thing that comes to mind is that here in Washington it's illegal to have a full auto unless you have a FFL for it or are Gov/Leo.

kmiles, I and others have found the max to be 5.8gr.. Above that is damaging to your pistol and self. 5.4gr to 5.6gr will be ok for bulk. 5.6gr to 5.8gr will shorten the life of reloading the brass.

I use a universal de-primer on all my brass and then clean them. I use Hornady one shot to lube for sizing and have never removed it because per Hornady it does not effect the loads. I do this even if I will be using my progressive press. But all in all as Jay says "to each his own".

Just because they scratch the lacquer off does not necessary mean you need a new set of dies. Before spending anymore money on new dies, try getting your hands on some mother's mag wheel buffing polish. Put some on a shotgun patch wrapped around a .30cal nylon cleaning brush and chuck it in a drill....

I had a batch of SS197 that gave me issues. What I ended up doing was to close the collet down completely then run the bullets up to break the seal. I then pulled them like normal. And that is using the hornady collet puller.Rapier1772 wrote:I use the hornady collet puller. As for the vid, I'll see what I can do.

Sometimes you don't always get the right amount of tension when sizing. The easiest way to see if your bullets are shifting in the case is to seat one then push the bullet tip against your table. If it goes in you do not have enough tension and I would suggest you look into getting a crimper. You co...

Your brass is being compressed because you are trying to force the bolt to meet the face of the chamber. They were not designed to operate flush like a normal rifle. If Jeff tested it then it works fine.

Almost all of SS197 should have around 5.5-5.6gr of powder. I have pulled 1 bullet out of every lot that I get. The lead free with the black primer avg around the 5.4gr mark and was the slowest velocity wise.
