Long time no post

I've been using the AR57 for about 4 years now and started reloading for it almost immediately. I've only used Blue Dot powder and CCI small rifle primers. I have brass that has seen as many as 8 reloads and I'm just now starting to see failures. The basic failure on the older loaded brass is on the...

Re: Reloading 5.7x28

I've been reloading the 5.7 for a couple of years now. I've been a reloader for 40 years. I load the 5.7 for an AR57 which I think is a lot more forgiving than the pistol or the P/PS 90. I've only used Blue Dot and have only moved it around from 6.0 to 6.5 grains behind bulllets of 40 to 50 grains. ...

Re: Ballistics Questions??

I have to agree with everybody else. No matter how you dress it, the 5.7 is a close-in kind of a round. Fabulous at 50 yards and with no recoil. Not so good past 100. Or should I say, OK maybe past 100 but really not meant to go there on a regular basis. My .22-250 will do the 52 grain AMax bullets ...

Blue Dot

I've done 6.5 grains of BD behind a 40gr VMax. Out of a 16" AR57 barrel and 25 shots over the Chrony I got: AVG - 2415 fps STD - 24.52 RSD - 1% Hi/Lo - 2454/2358 ES - 96 This was a pretty good load but I was starting to see some flattened out primers. Now I'm using 50 gr Dogtown (Midway USA) SP bull...

Re: AR 57 Hunting Scope?

I use this Leapers short scope. It has kept on working thru 1K rounds and is short enough to let the mag in and out easily. It's a 6x scope and perfect out to 100 yards.

What I've learned after just finishing up 1 pound of powder

Gun is an AR57 with the standard 16" barrel. The powder is Blue Dot. Primers have mainly been CCI small rifle. Bullets have been 35, 40. and most recently, 52 gr SP Dogtowns from Midway. This is by no means a step-by-step guide. This is just what I've learned and done while reloading the round. 1. W...

Just some general loading info for AR-57 folks

In an attempt to make even more cost-effective ammo, I bought 500 .224, 50 grain Dogtown bullets from Midway. I had been using 40 grain V-Max and Sierra blitzking bullets but those babies are pretty expensive. Shipped to PA the Dogtowns were $70. I loaded these up with 6 grains of Blue Dot with an O...

Re: Questions About a AR-57 SBR (silenced?)

I just got done shooting about 100 rounds of 4X fired brass thru my AR57. I use a light load to duplicate the factory SS197 at around 2100 fps with the 40 grain bullet. I had no issues and the brass still looks OK to me. I only clean them in mild dish detergent and I use Lee lubricant when I full-le...

Re: magnifying optic for ar57

Thanks! It's going to be in the mid 50's tomorrow here in PIttsburgh so I'm loading up the ammo box now to hit the range tomorrow. I've got a few hundreds rounds loaded - all Blue Dot in the 6 to 6.3 grain range with Hornady 40 gr VMax's. I really like to shoot this gun.

Re: magnifying optic for ar57

I use this 6X Leapers Bug Buster. Short enough so that the magazine will slide right under the front bell. Has a decent amout of eye relief and this position works nicely for me. Has an illuminated reticle and is great to use out to 100 yards. Tony S http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p45/tslap/AR57...

Aaah - the shot-up chrony

Dan, The very first set of loads I did for the 5.7 I brought the chrony and a buddy who has probably never shot a gun. I set him up and explained where the bullet had to go and why it was set up where it was. All he had to do was aim for the bullseye 50 yards away and he'd be golden. Blam. First sho...

Re: Blue Dot Reloads

Dan,

I'll try that 6.2 grain load. You really have the numbers down on the reloads! I love shooting this round and if I can swing it sometime I'd like to have the pistol, also.

Pistol or rifle? I had a heck of a time getting those short buggers to feed in my AR57. What was the COL for these loads?

Thanks

I stand corrected - big time

I never realized that the bolt was 2 piece - the machining line is darn near invisible. So is mine. I have had to catch mine as it leaves the gun during breakdown. I'll be a lot more careful during cleaning.

Re: AR 57 MISS FIRES

I can't see how the AR57 bolt could have snapped in half. It's a big bar of steel that's 0.75 in diameter. Wrong buffer may be a problem but, man, my bolt looks like I could use it as a connector between the tractor and the sled in a pulling contest. Even for the ones that have 6 blown engines. The ...

Re: Misfires on reloads-Maybe useful stuff

I was having a shoulder set-back issue. Careful measurement shows that all of my mis-fired ammo has a base to shoulder dimension of right around 0.94". All successful loads (factory also) have a 0.96 dimension. That extra 0.020 set back throws the round farther into the chamber on the AR57 and is ju...

Re: Misfires on reloads

Maybe some answers. I went to the range with three loads: 40 gr V-Max w/ 6.0 gr Blue Dot with COL at 1.565" 36 gr V-Max w/ 6.0 gr Blue dot with COL at 1.434" 36 gr V-Max w/ 6.3 gr Blue Dot with COL at 1.434" Two magazines - one ATI; one from 57 Center both 50 round capacity and not loaded to that be...

Re: AR57 Question

I had also installed a set of lighter trigger springs on this gun. They had been working fine with both the factory and reload ammo. I just hand-inserted two primed, but otherwise empty cases and both fired with a nice deep firing pin impression so it looks like the lighter springs haven't gotten we...

Re: AR57 Question

I checked the bolt and found several very small, silver slivers of metal on the bolt face and also around the ejector. The metal looks like it came from the primers.

Does anyone have any experience taking apart the AR57 bolt?
Thanks
