Re: RUGER's new 9mm CCW

Mine has over 100 rounds of WWB and several magazines of self-defense ammo through it with no issues. Not enough for me to be totally confident but I'm getting there. My experience with Taurus semis is that they are decent designs that sometimes suffer from being built to a price point. I went throu...

Re: Do you use your safety?

I only use the manual safety on a DA/SA pistol when disarming/re-arming myself, just due to the handling aspect. When it's in the holster being carried then there is no manual safety in use.

Re: RUGER's new 9mm CCW

I bought a Taurus PT-709 for Christmas, so far I'm quite pleased with it. It's almost identical to the Ruger in specifications, it's SA/DA, the trigger feels fine once you get used to the very long takeup, and mine's been 100% reliable so far. The Taurus has decent holster support already (although ...

Re: Thinking of picking up another FN... But which one.

Biggest change for me was the safety/decocker. Placement and function is like a 1911 (allowing cocked and locked carry) with the addition of also functioning as a decocker. The FNP-9 and -40 USG series had the forward slide serrations and manual safety incorporated into the decocking lever. There w...

Re: Simple Green and Firearms... Take a look...

Harsh commercially available degreasers are more of an issue with aluminum, although they will indeed give off free hydrogen radicals and I've seen steels and even some plastics degraded over time. The biggest issue with an airframe or other aluminum parts is when a cleaner-degreaser containing sodi...

Re: FNP-45 mag problem

The yellow plastic barrel was part of the Shooter's pack, as stated it's for practice/dry firing. The FNP-45 magazines have a known issue with not liking any ammo that runs longer than the SAAMI spec. The dimensions you list should be right on the edge of the spec, you might have an unusually tight ...

I'm saving for a 10mm now. A 10mm is the ideal woods/camping gun, that or a .44 magnum revolver are the only handguns I'd want if I ever had to defend myself against a bear or something similar. My daily carry would continue to be a compact .45 or even a 9mm pocket gun but I want to have the ability...

I don't have any personal experience with them, but Beretta makes the Bobcat and Cheetah in 22LR. Also, you can get .22LR conversions for some semi-auto pistols that are originally chambered for 9mm or .40. If you could find something like a Glock used, then get the .22LR conversion for it you'd hav...

Re: Hi all.....

The grip will slide on easier if you mix some dish detergent in water and coat the inside of the grip with it. The dish soap acts as a lubricant, but when the water evaporates it sticks. With a new gun I'd stick with SS197 for a while. Seems like the latest SS195 is underpowered and it doesn't like ...

I have the 9M, but I think they were discontinued at least a year ago. To me, the 9M is what the standard 9 should have been. 15+1, no extra grip length but not so short that the magazine needs a pinky finger rest either. Same slide as the standard FNP-9, but a slightly shorter barrel to fit flush w...

Re: I bought myself a 45 acp 24/7 compact for Christmas!

They didn't say +P on the box, and I got the 185 gr. projectile to help minimize the recoil and also hopefully get a higher muzzle velocity than I'd get from 230 gr. from the shorter barrel. I have a variety of 185 and 230 gr. JHP and FMJ rounds to run through it though, once I get to the range. I'm...

I would try to find a pocket holster that fit it, something like a DeSantis Nemesis or Superfly if I go that route.
