Does anyone here know anything about georgia gun laws? MY freind is 18 and an MP for the Coast Guard and wants to purchase a Glock 19. He is currently in some FBI training thing in georgia and saw the glock and asked me about it. After i approved of it he wanted to know about the laws down there. At his age and all can he purchase this firearm?

Federal law prohibits him from purchasing a handgun, regardless of occupation or calling. His mother or father may purchase one and then lend it to him, but he may not purchase it. Some states allow a parent to gift to a child a handgun, and visa versa. Generally, there is no prohabition for posession of a handgun by a person over 18, but under 21. However, he still will not be able to buy ammo for it.

I personally know a guy who was hired as a deputy sheriff in south Texas some years ago that had to have his parents purchase his duty ammo for him.

You may wish to advise your friend to contact the GA AG's office and ask about posession and gifting laws in that state.
