Filmmaker David Lynch will announce during a global webcast (www.DavidLynchFoundation.org) on Tuesday, May 1, at 12 noon (EDT), the David Lynch Foundation’s new plan to end school violence: Teach one million students around the world to meditate to transform schools from breeding grounds of stress and violence into centers of creativity and peace.

The David Lynch Foundation has already provided nearly $5 million to support in-school Transcendental Meditation programs for thousands of students in public and private schools in the United States and around the world to learn to meditate. (See www.StressFreeSchools.org.)

The National Institutes of Health has granted more than $24 million to study the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique for reducing high levels of stress and anxiety, improving brain functioning, and promoting cardiovascular health. Other published research shows the technique reduces depression, drug and alcohol abuse, and hypertension—while improving academic performance, creativity, intelligence, and ADD and other learning disorders.

Lynch will be joined by quantum physicist John Hagelin (What the bleep do we know?!, The Secret), and singer/songwriter Donovan Leitch (Hurdy Gurdy Man, Sunshine Superman, Mellow Yellow).

Lynch, Hagelin, and Donovan will explore the anti-violence plan in detail during a national student weekend entitled, “Exploring the Frontiers of Brain, Consciousness, and Creativity” at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, over Memorial Day Weekend, from May 25 to 28. Well, I just hope that terrorists, whacko's, and murders are polite enough for the students to finish saying "OOooosssaaaahhHH" before they cut their throats.

The only way to 'cure' school violence is to help the bullies to understand that if they don't play nice, someone will find their carcass in a pool of their own blood.

What i dont get is why all schools dont have two or three on duty LE officers. The schools here do and even have handgun lockers for probation officers...In NY there are also cops on duty in the schools? I know it sounds off but it is a must have procedure these days.....IMO

About twelve years ago Mrs. Fly was a business teacher at a rather large school. They had two cops that stayed in the parking lot in their cruisers and one or two at school entrances with metal detectors. Mrs. Fly's classroom was across the hall from the girls restroom. Even with cops all over the place, some chickie decided to slice another gal's throat in the restroom. Thankfully, my wife was at lunch at the time...I don't think she would have been able to handle it.
Needless to say, I turned in her resignation for her and made her come back home.
I think some schools warrant having a cop on school grounds if the doors are open. Some don't. Even with cops on campus though...sh!t still happens.

How about instead of making the school campus a police zone, we simply stop punishing those who defend themselves, and put justice back in the schools. This means, instilling a sense of virtue, honor, integrity; and a desire amongst our children to place themselves in harm's way for the welfare of the weak.

A man takes all that is directed at himself and others that are incapable of defending themselves, and breakes that evil upon his strong back. A man fights for right, abhores what is wrong, and can not abide anyone who has not the backbone to declare his allegiance be it good or ill.

That is what we need, not a governmental nanny telling us how to behave and punishing those it finds wanting.

The cure must not be worse than the disease and the cure must be effective.
Police zones turn into police states.
Meditation, while a worthy practice, cannot be made compulsory.
Threat models that ignore external threats fail.
Complete reliance on an all-powerful nanny government turns into subjugation by an all-powerful government.

That is a TALL order with TV and the internet. Parents having kids for extra cash in the WF check every month. kids with no support turning to the street to raise them where they learn to step on the weak take from the weak... It looks good on paper and that is a great long term goal....We need a solution to a issue at hand....reguardless

Hear, Hear....Don't laugh to loud. That's a damn fine solution. It's helped many young men, to include myself (back in the day).

I like the idea of instilling virtues like honor and truth to youngsters, but it must start at a young age. The kids that I saw getting into trouble, these were gang members or wannabe's. Some of the most violent young females I've ever seen stalked those school hallways. I can't think of a way to reach those kids who have been raised to bite at the hand that feeds them.
