For those of you interested in Naval warfare and in particular "fleet defense/threat," reading about this technology is pretty interesting (recall the French Exocet in the Falklands). Also interesting who the players are in terms of developing the technology, sales thereof, etc.

Yeah, we've known about them for quite some time (like 12 years). When we first learned of their development, it was thought they were trying to break 700mph under water. The unclassified speed is more around 230mph but I'm not aware of any western sources for a confirmed speed. I'm sure the CIA knows by now.

They pose the largest threat to our Naval fleets over any airborne missile as we currently have no effective countermeasures.

I just hope the Russians don't start selling this thing to nations like Iran.

I think Iran already announced having these, their own design I believe, sometime last year

Problem with those things is that they are unguided and have a limited range.

It was thought that the K-141 Kursk was attempting to launch one or more of these weapons in training when the fatal explosion occurred in 2000.
