Yeah......its going to be an over the top special effects blitz......

http://www.cgnews.com/images/300_movie_article.jpg

But the story has always been intrigueing to me. The same story that inspired the term "Molon Labe"...."Come and Take Them" ......that has become a battle cry for some of us who have actively participated in the pro-2nd ammendment fight.

A little background for newbies:

"Two little words. With these two words, two concepts were verbalized that have lived for nearly two and a half Millennia. They signify and characterize both the heart of the Warrior, and the indomitable spirit of mankind. From the ancient Greek, they are the reply of the Spartan General-King Leonidas to Xerxes, the Persian Emperor who came with 600,000 of the fiercest fighting troops in the world to conquer and invade little Greece, then the center and birthplace of civilization as we know it. When Xerxes offered to spare the lives of Leonidas, his 300 personal bodyguards and a handful of Thebans and others who volunteered to defend their country, if they would lay down their arms, Leonidas shouted these two words back.
Molon Labe! (mo-lone lah-veh)

They mean, “Come and get them!” They live on today as the most notable quote in military history. And so began the classic example of courage and valor in its dismissal of overwhelming superiority of numbers, wherein the heart and spirit of brave men overcame insuperable odds. Today, there lies a plaque dedicated to these heroes all at the site. It reads: “Go tell the Spartans, travelers passing by, that here, obedient to their laws we lie.”

We have adopted this defiant utterance as a battle cry in our war against oppression because it says so clearly and simply towards those who would take our arms.

It signifies our determination to not strike the first blow, but also to not stand mute and allow our loved ones, and all that we believe in and stand for, to be trampled by men who would deprive us of our God-given – or natural, if you will – rights to suit their own ends."

Anyway....I cant wait to see the movie.....even though I'm sure the makers had no idea of the connection to gun owners.

Or maybe they did?

I really want to see 300. It is definetly a "Mike Only" movie. Which means that my wife will not go with me but sometimes that is just fine to me. Atleast when I go by myselfe I do not have to explain the movie to anyone.

I am looking forward to this movie.

I actually attend the theater very seldom, but for this one, I may make an exception.

"Go tell the Spartans, travelers passing by, that here, obedient to their laws we lie." -Leonidas, King of the Spartans

I dread the film in its entirety. The Spartans and their Thespian allies deserve better than a Hollywood film relegating their last stand to a fictional piece depicting supernatural entities.

Looking forwards to Ghost Rider, Spiderman 3, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Smokin' Aces, Blood and Chocolate, Eragon, Fantastic Four 2, Indiana Jones, the 300.

Seen Pan's Labyrinth (Excelent foreign flick with awsome effects and a good moral),

The 300 is based on the graphic novel of the same title by Frank Miller. He's the man responsible for Sin City, if that's helpful.

Another movie I can't wait for is The Shooter. It's based on one of Stephen Hunter's "Bob the Nailer" books.

@wetwrks I must warn you, Eragon the movie departs greatly from the book.

Yup...it's Frank Miller. I have a friend who saw it before release and says it's very good, it overly stylized.

Dang it  I wish I new how to post links or photos.I'm a computer moron  Over on the AKForum, there is a guy in the 2nd Ammendment section that has a cool tattoo of "Molon Labe" over a rifle only I think it's in Greek? Has anyone else seen it?

I'm all for creative interpretation, but I agree with MO on this. This story is powerful enough without being turned into some quasi-cartoon.

I designed a shirt a couple years ago with a Molon Labe logo I came up with.

Maybe I'll have some printed up. Another one of those back burner projects.

Maybe print up a small amount with any profit going to fivesevenforums or something....if theres interest.

It would take a while. My free time is nearly non-existent right now.

I just finished the graphic novel the movie is based on last night. The only time the gods are directly mentioned is when the greeks are thanking Neptune(roman?) the god of the sea for causing a big ass storm and making trouble for the Persian fleet.

The rest of the movie is about 300 bad-ace mo-fo's (and their king) messing up the humongous persian army.

I figured this would be a good addition to the conversation.

I just watched the 1962 version of the movie called The 300 Spartans. A lot of the lines in this movie are in the new version as well. It was a pretty good movie.

BTown I will definetly see the old version but I have to say that the new movie is pretty incredible. About half way through you really start to get into the movie until then it is a little slow in spots.

I was not quite expecting all the nudity in the first hour but the battle seens were intense. It left out a bit of the history but hey it is Holly Wood.

It was worth my $7.

Saw it yesterday, it was good. Young perky naked girl who looks like she's swimming (really cool i thought-she was an oracle), a lesbian xerxes' harem scene to that wasn't as tastefully done but not too bad, random naked scenes with the Queen, and a lot of limb chopping blood spurting violence. If any of that bothers ya, I'd recommend skipping it. Otherwise, you'll get a blast out of it.

Oh, ya..... no 5.7's, P90's, or F2000's in it at all.
